>It really wasn't until 1989 and the success of the Batman movie that TV and movies started screwing around with superhero costumes.
Well.... not intentionally; they did some juggling 'cos of tech reasons. Like the Big McHugelarge Captain America movies of the 70's. But yeah; Batman showed you could monkey with stuff and still make a zillion dollars. Maybe that flick put the idea in their heads that you HAVE to monkey with the outfit?

The first Spider-Man, Hulk, Iron Man, even the FF costumes are pretty close. And as far as your Kirk Alyn/George Reeves comment, get your head out of the sand and look around a bit more. They appeared on movie screens way before Chris Reeve and have your precious Tom Welling beat by actually appearing in theatres.Last edited by thunderbolt; Sep 3, '11, 4:51 AM.You must try to generate happiness within yourself. And I'm not saying some Movie Superhero costumes weren't close, but they always have change them in some way. Spidey's is one the best, all though I don't why the webbing had to be sliver instead of black... I can let things like that go. But my point is they always have to change something, wether it be the material, or the shade of red on Brandon Routh's Superman Costume. So no...I don't think movies try and stay true to the Comics....I sincerely doubt that the new Superman costume has any connection to Jim Lee's new design.
As far as Alyn & George Reeves appearing in movie theaters, didn't know that...but were they full length movies, or serial shorts like a TV show? Because back then people also went to theater to watch news reels and they showed cartoons as well. But that stuff is so far back it doesn't even count in my book. I'm talking about how Superheroes are portrayed today.Last edited by The Bat; Sep 3, '11, 7:03 AM.sigpicComment

I've never seen a Kirk Alyn as Superman, sorry. But does putting two George Reeves TV episodes together as a pilot...really constitute a movie? Or are they just 2 episode edited together?

Ah yes... the motorcycle helmet Cap of those 70s TV movies.

And I really don't understand what difference it makes if it was a chapter in a serial or two TV episodes strung together....There were no "big budget" super-hero movies back in the day...Those are the formats that existed at the time. You claimed ignorance that Alyn and Reeves were even in movies...well they were whether you like it or not because that is what constituted a movie during that era. I already admitted I didn't know Ayln made a Movie, so why are you still pushing that point? But due to the topic of Henry Callvill's new Superman costume, I was under the impression we were talking about the "current trend" of changing the Costumes of Superhero movies being made today(not 50 years ago). As for being a jerk...I'd say you know you're subject matter.

and, yet again, when 1989's BATMAN was released, that it almost does
cram what came before it into the category of "exaggerated T.V. episodes"...
or merely "serials"... which is like movies from another planet at this point in 2011."No. No no no no no no. You done got me talkin' politics. I didn't wanna'. Like I said y'all, I'm just happy to be alive. I think I'll scoot over here right by this winda', let this beautiful carriage rock me to sleep, and dream about how lucky I am." - Chris MannixComment

There was such a big divide created when 1978's S: TMP was released...
and, yet again, when 1989's BATMAN was released, that it almost does
cram what came before it into the category of "exaggerated T.V. episodes"...
