    Disney fires Marvel's marketing department

I heard Disney was not happy with the box office returns on this summer's Marvel product. Could this move be their response to that disappointment?

It wasn't the returns. Disney is trying to squeeze out every dollar because they overpaid for Marvel and Avengers is supposed to be the payoff. They're terrified of losing to TDKR because then they'll have to answer shareholders & analysts who ask "what exactly was worth 4 billion".

Analysts don't see it yet, but Marvel is in trouble. It's Whedon v Nolan and Joss is not in his league. I think that's why this was snapped on the Avengers set last week...

Which is actually a surprise since his involvement was supposed to be quite limited. IMO, it had to have been Downey making the call.

Disney's bringing the marketing in house, they control that sort of stuff pretty tightly.

I just see this as standard operating procedure in this day and age when one company takes over another. As time goes on the company who made the purchase brings as much in house as possible since ultimately what they wanted to buy was products/brands not people. Cold for sure, but true.

I wonder how long until Disney exerts more day to day editorial input.

Could it have anything to do with the fact that Marvel SHOULD HAVE released Cap on 4th of July Weekend and didn't release it until 2 WEEKS later??!!?? If I was with Disney, I would have fired them right then and there. I mean what kind of BONEHEAD does that??!!??

im really expecting something alsome with this movie. i havent been excited about a comic book movie since Iron man and i hope this one can deliver. The Avengers could put Marvel on top again if it delivers on the goods and the cast is great if the writings there. I dont know if Marvels worth what Disney paid but i guess 4 billion is just change for them. I think Disney already markets better than WB these days but thats just an opinion. I just hope in the long run Disney takes better care of the characters than they have been done in the last decade or so.....

The kind that doesn't want to go head to head opening weekend with Transformer or Harry Potter, not really so boneheaded.

If the studio had the ability to open 4th of July weekend I don't think it would have suffered against any other movie that opened that weekend cause it would have attracted those folks that weren't interested in seeing Transformers...so...I think it was a lost opportunity regardless.

Captain America screams 4th of July...I'm pretty sure most of the general public would have thought it should have been released on that weekend.
