What you Bought and What you Thought this week

Oddly large week for me. I've gone weeks in a row where I've just kind of walked in and out. Which is insane because comics are my crack.

    Back Issue 50 (Batman!)
    Ultimate Fallout 6
    Butcher 2 (The Boys)
    Avengers 16
    Fables 108
    Tiny Titans 43
    Walking Dead 88
    Captain America 2
    X-Men Schism 3
    Daredevil 2
    Iron Man 507

Marvel is definitely winning most of my comic book dollars in the mainstrem releases.

Read Fables right away... loved it. Brand new storylines getting under way which does kind of make me wish they would split the series again. I think I would happily follow a miniseries detailing Bufkin leading the rebellion in Oz... I wonder how this might tie in with the recent revelation about what a complete ****** Dorothy turned out to be in the Cinderella mini.

I thought it was a really great send-off to Aunt May, Gwen, MJ, Kitty, Bobby and Johnny in Ultimate Fallout. The new Spiderman does not appear, so I'd recommend it to anyone who likes to see what happens to those characters.

Tiny Titans: Aw Yeah Phantom Zone Villains, Jor El and Ambush Bug!

Walking Dead just keeps on chugging along with more and more tension every month... even in a relatively quiet issue like this one, storms are brewing. Nice to see that they have FINALLY stopped (at least for this one issue) sending poor Glenn out on the most dangerous scavenging and scouting missions. Although ironically it appears now that the safest place he could ever be even outside the walls is with Andrea, Abraham, Rick and Michonne.... the scariest people in the Walking Dead universe.

Sadly, I haven't bought a comic in a few months now. Will probably start again when DARK HORSE restarts BUFFY, but other than that, I dunno. I was buying GL pretty religiously for a while, but (IMHO) Doug Mahnke's pencils have gotten so meh that it's turning me off the book (which is sad because I love John's handling of the character)....
sigpic Oh then, what's this? Big flashy lighty thing, that's what brought me here! Big flashy lighty things have got me written all over them. Not actually. But give me time. And a crayon.

My comic book store lady, (yes! run by a woman!), mixes old releases with new ones so I'm buying old stuff as well as new sometimes without always knowing it. Some recent purchases:

        Rocketeer 3
        Hellboy Fury 3
Heroic Age Avengers (art by J.R. Jr.)
        Honey West
        Defenders One-Shot
        Moon Knight 3
        Weird world of Jack Staff

I've been buying Warlord of Mars: Deja Thoris, mainly for 2 very big, errrr, important reasons.

It's kind of neat seeing Daredevil as a bit more of a light hearted character after so many decades of the grit and grim. Waid seems to be emphasizing the superhero more than the crime and noir... Which will probably explain the Avengers membership.

I was expecting to absolutely love the Captain America relaunch, but partway through this first arc it's much more quirkier than I expected it to be. I'm really missing Bucky as Cap. I'm a fan of McNiven's art, but this is probably best described as "Little Nemo Agent of SHIELD". Very unexpected from Brubaker, even with that venear of realism he tends to write his superhero stories.

Pretty indifferent to Avengers right now... Particularly since this should have been much more emotionally gripping. I wonder how Mark Bagley would have handled the art for example showing the grieving Steve Rogers.

Green Lantern Corps... Very indifferent as they shut down and gear up for the relaunch. I'll probably be only getting the Sinestro GL title.

X-men Schism is starting to really cook. Love the baby hellfire club and the cracks are starting to show between wolverine and cyclops... Oddly enough over the issue of killing. And totally not in the way you would expect to traditionally play out. Cyclops has really come out as a real badass making some really hard decisions for the greater good these last few years. The most character development he's had since Jean first died.

I can't wait for my Back Issue #50 to arrive...

Other than that, I've been reading Back Issue #49, which was late. No other current mag purchases in a long time. Other than my son's Tiny Titans subscription, of course!

I got the last issues of Batgirl, Birds of Prey, and Detective last week. I haven't gone yet this week.

I was sad to see the Steph Brown Batgirl series end. I really enjoyed it. I think it had a good ending. One of hope and optimism. I guess that's all I could ask of it.

The new Alter Ego came out this week as well, and it's pretty good.

I've picked up the last few issues of Journey Into Mystery and loved it, it's one of the best reads I've had for a while. Also Mystery Men, that's been good fun.

I've been meaning to check that out. Kid Loki is currently my favourite character in the current Thor run.
