Amazing Spiderman vol 2 first issues low print run?????

I hate to say this but i really don't pay much attention to current values most of the time i just buy a book i like read it then bag and board it then file it away i was never one who studied values
So i'm taking by surpise when i was told that Amazing Spiderman vol 2 had low print runs for the first 20 issues is this true
I rembember buying these off the shelves when they first arrived and i never recall any shortages well except for the black cover 9/11 issue but that a whole other matter

ULTIMATE Spider-man. 30,000 range first issue. Folks were wary after Byrne's Spider-Man Chapter 1 relaunch.
(I sold my #1 just before the first Sam Raimi movie on eBay for about $100)

I know Ultimate Spidey had low pre-orders and when it took off it caught a lot of people by surpise i traded my first issue for Amazing Spiderman issues 121 and 122 both in veryfine cond

But the store i got my books from at the time had plenty of Amazing Spiderman i even got the alt cover for issue 1 for cover price

A quick peaks at a couple of the more popular online comic book marketplaces shows that Byrne's Amazing Spider-man run us still dollar bin or cover price at best. It's not really a fan favorite run by any stretch currently, having been overshadowed by Ultimate. Of course you still hear Poor Byrne grumbling about it on his board.

Even with a lower print run, there isn't much demand as far as I can see. Maybe if Wizrd were still around to manufacture demand with their investment section.

I had the first 8 or so issues of Ultimate Spidey and actually sold them off to help fund some toy buying. I rarely ever do that, but it was a nice surprise to find them valued so high a while back.

That volume 2 of Amazing spun out of the much maligned Byrne Chapter 1, so that could account for the low numbers.

            Hmmmm....

I thought #2s often had a low print run, since it was assumed a measure of the hype from a #1 wouldn't carry over.

Ultimate Spder-Man was marketed originally as an "all-ages" book (I was working a comic shop then). Following on the weak Byrne relaunch & the Untold series it wasn't ordered heavily. And THEN...

^Funny how the Ultimate and All-Star lines were originally skewed that way, only to offer much more mature versions of the characters than the mainstream versions!

I'm sure with the (funnily enough titled) Amazing Spider-man reboot film coming out based heavily on Ultimate Spider-man, there will be attention on those particular Ultimate comics again. At this point, given all the free sampler copies given away, having been sold in Walmart and collected in all manner of formats, it's probably the most widely read Spiderman in print currently.

The entire Ultimate line has become kind of a real experiment in coming up with alternate takes on the characters to develop into film/Video Game/Television media properties.
