Reminds me of Englehart's "Origin of the Justice League Minus One" story. Every DC hero of the late 50s participated in a proto-Justice League case involving a Martian invasion. Inspired Darwyn Cooke's "New Frontier" even.

With all the retro-continuity it seems as if Marvel has become old DC, while DC has become 90s Marvel!

I am 4 issues short of owning EVERY issue of the Avengers title and have almost every other Avengers-related title. Its the only book I collect.

I almost find this offensive and will pass.
        WANTED - Solid-Boxed WGSH's, C.8 or better.

On the bright side maybe this will cause the back issues to go down in value and now you can afford them!

Namortia, Sabertooth, Kraven.... and Reuben Flagg? Oh wait; that's Dominic Fortune. Dunno how; but they REALLY got some subliminal Chakyn-esueness in there.

            >Also the new Dark Avengers

So.... three lumpy guys and someone who gets their hair done at the same place Sandman used to go to? (That's Osbourne, isn't it?)

            Don C.
Cause it is Chaykin working on it.

Is Chaykin doing the artwork for this book?........I don't like when Chaykin does superheroes his style is best suited for solo stuff not heroes.......

I need a little more then 4...but less then 25 (random) issues

...and I do find ALL of this EXTREMELY offensive...it ain't my Avengers!!!

I look at it this way...the more Marvel & DC screw things up like this, the more money I have to finish my back issues without compromising on condition.

...so that's more money in the dealer's hands and less in theirs...it's a win-win

I think its Deodato and Chaykin listed as the artists. He should be alright on this since its a period piece and most of the characters are the non tights crowd.

It's Chaykin's book as writer/artist. The origin story arc already appeared in New Avengers with Chaykin's handling the 50's flashback stuff and Deodato doing the current day events. It was okay... Showed how Dugan and Fury got the infinity formula as they hunted Nazi war criminals. Mockingbird got a dose of it in present day and now has Super Soldier powers... I don't know if this is setting her up as some kind of female captain America.

I'm actually really curious if they show how this dovetails into the incredibly complex SHIELD backstory they are developing in the current SHIELD series... Where you have Howard Stark, Nathaniel Richards (Tony and reed's dads) running around as SHIELD agents in the fifties fighting guys like an armored Iron Man-like Nichola Tesla.

SHIELD is currently my favorite Marvel title. imagine the Marvel version of League of extraordinary gentlemen starring Leonardo Da Vinci, Galileo, Tesla, etc fighting celestials, Galactus, the brood and other alien and temporal threats.

We're already seeing it with the Tron variant covers, and Marvel already has been repurposing the existing Boom Pixar and Muppet material.

John Carter comics have also started coming out at Marvel. I'm assuming it must have hit public domain recently with Dynamite having their series out as well simultaneously.
