Even Hex got "prettied up" later. Sure his scars were there, but without them he was a leading man! Here he's Quasimodo after a shaving accident.

When i was a kid, I figured Jonah Hex was Two-Face's grandpa who fought in the Civil War.

This ad was published in DC Comics back in the day, but when the comic finally came out, they had changed the character design to the half-mutilated face we all know and love.

I'd never seen this design before. I think this "Monster" Hex is pretty cool. I think it would make a cool custom.

I wonder how much it was doctored up just for the ad though. DC had a habit of playing up the shock value of new stuff, wether it was warranted or not. Remember the ads for BatLash? "Will he save the west.... or RUIN it?"

Apparently they were not from any published panels. My assumption is that this was an early design drawn for the ad and the final look changed prior to publication of the first printed story.

Alternatively, there is unpublished first shot Hex pages out there that these were taken from.
