I should make an effort to see Begin's if you all recommend it.
Mike, Begins is really the super hero movie for folks who hate them, or are at least indifferent to them. I had many coworkers come to me and say they really were surprised how much the liked it. It's just a good movie, period. The fact that it's a Batman movie done with sincerity and faithfulness to the character is just gravy.
I've talked to very few people who were sorry they saw it. And they were nuts.
It is to Batman what Superman: The Movie was to Superman. Well, actually, technically it's better, because its more of a coherent vision than S:TM.
I involuntarily shouted out loud at the end of the first one when the showed the Joker's playing card, I was so excited at the idea of the Joker in the world they created. I think Nolan will do great things with it, and Christian Bale is becoming on of my favorite actors.
I rarely get that excited about upcoming movies anymore. However, I am so pysched for this movie I can barely stand the wait.
I loved Batman Begins. To me it is the definitive Batman film. They finally got it right. The first film with Keaton was not bad but the Clooney versions were brutally awful. Kilmer was okay.
I loved the 1966 Television show, still do. For very different reasons though.
