Some bright spots in DCU darkest moment

Looking over the advanced listings for the DCU heroes reborn screw up i have to admit they may be a few bright spots
1] Aquaman, to start with Aquaman is Aquaman agian no beard armor and hook/robot hand magic water hand and so on and so on, Aquaman is back and the art work is great
2] Batgirl, Barbarra Gordon is Batgirl agian nuff said
3]Batman ,Bruce Wayne is Batman Bruce Wayne is Batman, now if he'd only go back to the blue and grey
4] Flash, Barry Allen now if only they could get a great writer and decent art team
5]Superman, covers by George Prez to bad he's not doing the inside art but at least the book will have great looking covers, and the best thing is doing away with the whole married to Lois anchor that was added just to tie in with the Lois and Clark tv series
OK the above is not enought to make everyone jump for joy and it's still a big slap in the lomg term fans but things are not as dark as they first appeared

Another bright spot is the return of one of my long time favorite characters, namely FIRESTORM, The Nuclear Man with scripting by Ethan Van Sciver ( a great arteeest) and Gail Simone [I think]. Looking forward to this one, but I wish it was still Ronnie Raymond and Doctor Stein.
sigpic Oh then, what's this? Big flashy lighty thing, that's what brought me here! Big flashy lighty things have got me written all over them. Not actually. But give me time. And a crayon.

I have to admit I wasn't too sure at first but I'm actually getting cautiously optimistic about the reboot. Babs back as Batgirl is a big plus for me. From what I can tell, the new suits can look iconic enough depending on the artist. Still not crazy about Sups nehru collar and red belt though. But I am happy they are not going with the jacket or pants look with Wonder Woman.

I do think it was a huge missed opportunity that neither Mattel or DC direct will have figures ready to tie in with and help hype the reboot.

You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

The silver lining I see is that DC is finally getting around to publishing some great stories that have never been reprinted. There's a original series Infinity Inc hardcover coming out, a Flash trade showcasing his trial from the 80's. The one I have been wanting, Firestorms appearances from the Flash back ups with art by George Perez doing his first art for DC. Cool stuff coming out for sure.

My biggest issue was Supermans new costume,I hate it.Superman is too iconic to change his look!

I agree there are some bright spots, but not enough to get me to walk into a comic store or download these.

I was just watching some of the special features on the 89 Batman DVD (the deluxe version from a few years ago) and Dan DiDio states that they have to respect their fanbase, and give the fans the kind of stories they want. Well, apparently he has an odd way of doing that.

I still think all of the excitement about this reboot could have been accomplished with some really STRONG creative teams, and a clean slate that doesn't negate any previous continuity, but doesn't constantly reference it either. I think they would have kept the fanbase they had, lured some old disgruntled guys like me back, AND brought in some new readers just anxious to see what the buzz was about. This neither/nor approach is a huge turn-off to me.

Maybe a few bright spots but certainly not enough to save DC or the industry as they'd have you believe in their "all or nothing" approach...

Perez is apparently also doing breakdowns for the art. They are finally releasing Titans Games.

Green Lantern is also continuing with it's current creative team and ongoing story lines.

Releasing the Titans graphic novel doesn't make sense to me...especially since it is in the relaunch month. Isn't the whole point to simplify the continuity? And yet let's release something from 20 years ago...

So am I, but I'm also currently reading Writer Jeff Lemire's graphic novel Essex County and enjoying it. (he's a fellow Canuck BTW)

Haven't read any of his Superhero work, but his indie and Vertigo stuff has some buzz.

Barry Allen has yet to still be a "bright spot" in the DCU since His return.

^ I'm not sure he will still be able to get that "stink" off of him....Handing the book over to the mediocre artist who will now serve as a writer as well wasn't a well thought out idea IMO...If Johns couldn't make it work, what chance does Manapul on his own? Look for another Flash #1 in about a year....That's probably what they're saving Wally West for....
