    The Best of Archie Comics

Just picked this up yesterday...nice price at $9.99. Probably my best "new" comic purchase at my LCS in several months.

I've been very disappointed lately in the recent releases, especially all of this Flashpoint stuff from DC and the new direction they're going in. It's caused me to even stop buying the last few issues of series I've been reading for awhile, simply out of protest and a "why bother?" attitude.

So this little throwback to my youth and what used to be FUN about comics was a most welcome addition to my collection!

    Hmmmm....

I suspect it goes back a bit more than just your youth though.... unless you're 80. The "Best of the...." series is pretty good too.

The youth comment referred to the fact that Archie comics used to be something I enthusiastically purchased "back-in-the-day", not my actual age or whether I was around for "Pep Comics" #22

I find I've been picking up Archies lately, mostly because I'm a Josie collector & they've begun using the Pussycats more & more. But there's been a few gems like the Robin Hood stories & the Comic shop stories that've creeped in as well.

Is that best of book in the Showcase B&W style? I'll have to pick one up.

I might have to get this,400 pages for $10 is awesome when you consider a new comic from DC is $3 for 22 pages! Ive been eyeing PEP#29 at my lcs for $30 i think thats a great price, what era are the stories in this book from?

It's larger than digest-sized but it's not your standard size TPB either.
The only thing B&W is a reprint of some Sunday strips....everything else is in color. Everything is in nice color EXCEPT for some covers from the 90s I think it is...looks like they were swiped off the 'net instead of being scanned/photographed from the actual artwork.

It has stuff like Katy Keene pinups, some L'il Jinx strips, That Wilkin Boy, Josie and the Pussycats, Sabrina.....

Every decade is covered from the 40s to now...including the 1st appearance from Archie/Betty/Jughead from Pep #22, Veronica's 1st appearance, as well as a portion of the recent "marriage" storyline....

The only thing I'm surprised I didn't see covered (unless I missed it) was the religious, preachy comics Archie did for Spire Christian Comics back in the '70s...

I'd suspect it's one of two things:

-They're trying to forget they ever happened
                    -there's some weird copyright entanglement

That's a must pick up. I won't buy Marvel and DC as i will continue to boycott their drivel....but I still pick up me some Archie Damn right I do. I love me some Betty and Veronica, Cheryl Blossom, The Pussycats and Hell Midge is good to go too

I've never picked up or read an Archie comic book i know all the chacters mainly from watching the cartoons that ran in the 70s
May have to check this book out but i'd prefer a book which main focaus was the 70s

Gotta grab me a copy of this, I think there's a hardback version as well with 430+ pages.

I think this one big monster book would be awesome too.... especially if it's got the newspaper strips. Those don't show up very often.

I think the digests even in the seventies were digging back into the vaults pretty far when it came to reprinting stuff.

Little Archie was my favorite as a kid. Although I recall getting a chuckle at all the bizarre regular features... Particularly the caveman stuff. Oddly enough, never really got into Archie as superhero material
