I think we've seen both interpretations of Bruce/Batman... every writer seems to bring their own version of that to the table... same with Clark/Superman. Although Pre-Crisis, I think the argument could easily be made that Clark was the disguise, while Post-Crisis, Byrne made it abundantly clear that Clark was the real deal... particularly in having him so emotionally removed from his Kryptonian heritage.
I really do have to recommend Batman Flashpoint though for a discussion around "who's real". I don't think it's a secret that Thomas Wayne is the Batman in Flashpoint... so a person who's adult personality was already pretty much established when his son died at the hands of Joe Chill. I'd love to hear what people who have read Batman Flashpoint think of the fate of Martha Wayne.
