Marvel to offer variant cover and discounts for ripped up DC Flashpoint comics.

    That is really classless.

I guess they are getting scared by DC's reboot.

Marvel Offers Fear Itself Variant For Ripped Up Flashpoint Comics From DC Bleeding Cool Comic Book, Movies and TV News and Rumors
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

Last time Marvel did this with the infamous Deadpool variant, it was actually an extremely successful campaign. Given that trade paperbacks have killed the market for recent back issues.

Essentially, due to the colored lantern ring promotion... Retailers were stuck with stacks of unsellable DC books that they ordered just to get the rings in quantity. So much so that some retailers made their profit by selling the rings rather than comics. So they were able to make money back on the Deadpool variant by selling it for a hundred bucks or whatever the going rate was at the time.

The problem is, Marvel was just as guilty as flooding the Market with tie in crossover books and could have just as easily ran this promotion with Secret Invasion or Civil War tie in books that retailers were stuck with.

I wish comics would just go ahead and self destruct already. All this childish crap from Didio, Quesadilla and Lee is beyond stupid.

I agree. Why can't we just go back to the days when comics were----well, fun, instead of being basically just a way for a corporation to rape our collective wallets. I was talking to a friend of mine the other day who runs one of the local comic shops and he was madder than a hornet that DC was doing this reboot as a lot of his customers told him that DC was basically just giving them a stopping point to NOT BUY titles anymore.

I do have a feeling this is gonna bite DC in the you-know-where and pretty darn hard, too....!
sigpic Oh then, what's this? Big flashy lighty thing, that's what brought me here! Big flashy lighty things have got me written all over them. Not actually. But give me time. And a crayon.

Quesada's out of the Big Chair at Marvel publishing and into a cushy titled consulting gig with Hollywood and other media.

Tom Brevoort and Axel Alonso are in charge and doing a not-bad job IMHO, "attack" marketing oddities like this aside. They tend to have more hits than misses overall right now compared to DC.

I'm REALLY interested to see how this reboot goes over. I'm betting even if the titles get a spike in sales for the first month, by month 3 they will be BELOW the current sales. And some titles will be DOA and canceled by at least issue 6.

But this whole thing is just...tacky. Both companies have incessantly issued these neverending EVENTS so nothing actually is an EVENT.

I keep hearing really good things about flashpoint. I wanted to ignore it, but might have to check it out in trade.

You should read the main Flash Point books(1-5). Issues #1-3 have been awesome, can't wait for #4! Regardless of what comes out of these for the reboot...the story is interesting. I wish I'd also picked up the Batman title.

Both Marvel and DC need to get back to basics...I think most of us can agree that the 70's books were some of the best ever done. Most of the books were single issue self-contained stories, with an occasional two or maybe three-parter. The artwork was a lot more consistent across the boards because the artists weren't given free reign to change costumes weekly and had to follow a style guide.
What is Spider-Man wearing these days anyway? He still wears the red and blue right? Unless he's with the FF, then it's the white suit, unless it's nighttime then it's the Tron suit...
Oh, the hell with it. Gimme more old back issues.

It does kind of get subjective in terms of content, but the one fact that most historians can agree upon is that the comics industry in the seventies was on the verge of collapse, with flagging sales at an all time low. DC in particular were pulling stunts like the DC explosion which infamously became the DC implosion and Marvel as always was chasing fads like Monsters and Kung **.

DC and Marvel ultimately retreated into the newly created direct Market throughout the eighties, chasing an increasingly adult market, and the primarily kids oriented imprints like Harvey and Gold key disappeared leaving only Archie on the news stands.
