Good to see John Byrne getting on a few lists...I thought the general consensus was anti-Byrne in comicdom.

The Anti-Byrne thing stems from his attitude and his product of late. His FF run was the second best ever in the history of the book.

i thought Alpha Flight, Man of Steel and subsequent Superman was ok....I suppose his tinkering with continuity and origins got out of control after that....apart from some of the generations it was pretty much downhill from there.
Loved his FF ...reading those actually got me back into comics.

I've always liked Byrne's runs on Uncanny X-Men with Terry Austin (I prefer him to Dave Cockrum on the book), Fantastic Four, Superman, Alpha Flight, She-Hulk. What I didn't care for was his Hulk, Spider-Man revamp, Wonder Woman. I prefer his earlier artwork style before he started what looks like he's inking with a big black magic marker.

In the Southeast Pacific, lies the sunken city of R'Leyh. There lies C'thulhu waits to return to our world with the other Great Old Ones. ^^ Don't be so harsh on Cockrum, XMen wouldn't be what it is without him. He did most of the All New design work.

Yeah I know...it's kinda funny though...Cockrum designed Wolverine's new Mask...but Byrne drew it BETTER! As well as the rest of the X-Men(LOVE His Colossus!).

I've kinda got a thing about Wolverine's Mask...it has to be drawn "just right". It's surprising...a lot of Artist's just can't pull it off...or They think They're improving it?

Cockrum had some mad design skills (love his X-Men/Legion/Imperial Guard/Starjammer designs) but his pencil work was an acquired taste methinks....

Hmmmm.... for the record I never liked Byrne....

                                >Cockrum designed Wolverine's new Mask...but Byrne drew it BETTER!

Burne was actually a very concise artist and an excellent draftsman. So from a technical point of view he drew everything "better." I didin't like his designs: everybody had the same head. (Supes and Lois looked like brother and sister. *shudder*) I think one of the reasons so many thought he was the second coming of Kirby back in the day was because his stuff was so much more polished and clean than almost everyone elses.

Very skilled, kinda boring. I can remember a Dredd comic where he did art for a story. Compared to Ron Smith and Carlos Esquezerra his stuff looked really static and blah.

Although if you wanna talk mainstream stuff, I liked Jim Aparo. Although everyone looked the same his stuff was just cartoony enough that you could really focus on the action. Perez wasn't bad either; HIS people all looked different. And I really liked Ernie Colon when he inked his own stuff.

                                Don C.
