BTW, just saw it a couple hours ago and really liked it. Man, did they get the shield throwing right or what? And the skinny Steve really showed how CGI can be our friend. Excellent movie.Comment

Ok i just managed to hop on here for a few, and I saw it opening night. I loved the Jim Hammond in the tube! but it seemed like i was the only one in the theatre that saw it...
my only gripee were the exclusion of Nick Fury (they could have tossed sgt fury in and said Jackson fury was named after Nick...) and the Bucky Debacles... both how he fit in, and how he died. Other than that Perfect Cap film. they did a nice job augmenting the believability of the character, in a movie sense.Comment

I think you're right. Maybe the Skull was testing something on him that will help him survive the freezing, like Cap did.

And a crayon.Comment

I appreciated Cap's shield slinging abilities as well, but I thought it would've made excellent sense to a general audience (that being folks who don't know squat about the Captain and his shield) for Stark to explain to Steve that he was putting in some type of a homing gyro so that the shield would return to him once it had been thrown...Comment

Yeah---but the characters in Marvel's movies are all grounded in a certain, inescapable reality, so that explanation as to WHY the shield returns to him would've made perfect sense. After all, it's not a boomerang or a frisbee (which will sometimes return to you and sometimes not), it's a big, metal discus....sigpic Oh then, what's this? Yeah, Cap's shield just works because Cap knows how to throw it. I wouldn't want it explained away. There should be some larger than life mystique to even the most grounded of super heroes. No one really knows how Batman manages to just appear and disappear in front of Jim Gordon, and I don't want to know!
Just like how none of his friends recognize Clark Kent is Superman!

I suspect with the Avengers, Tony Stark will reveal the technology of the shield since he will be building Cap's new uniform. It would add a degree of credibility to the 'science' of Cap which is always a good thing. Every other hero has a rationale for their ability, Cap' should too.
If I remember correctly, Tony TRIED to improve Cap's shield's technology early in the Avengers comic series. Cap took it for a test drive and had it all removed.Comment

Valid point. I have to keep reminding myself of that. They've just been getting soooo close to getting it completely right...
I suspect that, in the Avengers movie, Tony will show Steve the "improved" prototypes that keep popping up in the Iron Man movies, and that Steve will be able to demonstrate that sometimes the old ways may actually have been better.Comment
