    Superman Returns opening scene..

..which was cut from the final film:

Aborted Original Opening of ‘Superman Returns’ Featured Space Travel, Intense Blue Eyes, Lots of Quiet | The Projector - Yahoo! Movies

I think it works fine, and better completes the later scene with mom when he returns to earth and proclaims Krypton a graveyard..

They should have started the movie with this have an overdubbed narration with him explaining his absence and what he was searching for then go into the credits......and cut out that stupid hospital scene towards the end of the movie..........

Wait a second. I was RIGHT! Someone get Hector!

I believe a few months ago I questioned the internal logic of movie "Superman Returns" based on the fact that Superman wanted to visit Krypton, even though it was an entire planet made of Kryptonite which was the only thing that could kill him, and Hector laughed at me. Laughed I tell you!

If that was Krypton why was it all Kryptonite? If he left our solar system and went home, wouldn't he be just a regular Kryptonian then and the planet wouldn't bother him?

I don't like the movie, but I don't mind that scene. It brings back the cosmic feeling and mystery of the character from the first movie. Though I still don't think it would have saved the film for me. To many other issues and really annoying scenes.

I liked the film....it had some great parts...and some slow stuff also....but I dont see where that missing part would have adding anything to the film. I thought Routh made a good Superman....and really got the short end of the stick in the whole thing....

I enjoyed the movie and thought Routh did a good job and did get the shaft. I just wish there was no Luthor and he had punched something.

I'm with the article writer.. liked the film fine with the exception of Kate Bosworth and much of the Luthor stuff..

Those are good questions about the kryptonite.. I'm not enuff of a fan to know all the ins and outs of that..

I'm glad you guys liked it - I just really hated watching it. There are like 6 long scenes of voice over talking with long tracking shots over the sets. Two people are talking, just show the people talking. It's not building suspense, I know who they are! I remember the characters in the movie!

The movie just seemed to stretch the plot, and instead of building suspense it was just one head scratching moment after another for me.

I hated the way Lois was written, and absolutely hated Kate Bosworth as Lois, she just did not seem right to me at all. I was never nuts about Kidder, but she was a lot more believable as a young veteran news reporter to me. Lois was just a prop in this movie - with no character at all to me - and no inner strength which is the thing Supes should be drawn to.

I hated lois and Supe's relationship. The aspects of Supes spying on Lois and generally acting like a sucky dumped on boyfriend really aggravated me. When he was spying on them I just completely turned against the movie.

The thing with Supe's kid was just trying way too hard, didn't excite me or interest me in any way. Just made me scratch my head.

Then there's all the little things - like Kumar being cast in the movie and not saying a word. Like, we're kind of expecting him to be the new Otis or add some comedy relief or something, but instead I don't think he even had a single line. Why put him there?

The trick with Supes is you have to make sure he's not just a hero based on his powers, and the first 2 movies did that well. This one didn't at all.

I agree with you ScottA, I thought Routh was the one really bright spot. I didn't like the way Supes was written, but I though he was perfectly casted and did a great job. It's too bad he isn't going to get another shot just because things didn't work out.

Created because of Nuclear fusion from the exploding planet the remains of the planet become radioactive....thus it is Super lethal leading to death within minutes for them but also to humans because of the radioactivity that could cause cancer to humans....if I'm not mistaken i think Luthor got cancer at one time for being over exposed to it

Okay. Now THAT was screwed up. Whoever greenlighted that scene to even be written and shot evidently didn't know squat about Superman lore. I'm ancient [by today's standards], but common Superman canon is that Krypton completely blew the *%#@ up, not became a half-planet, half asteroid field. It kinda got vaporized when its Red Sun went supernova (which would incinerate pretty much anything and everything).

To make matters worse, they STILL have Kal-El begin affected by the green K even though, in the part of space he was in (even IF Krypton's sun DID still exist) he would NOT have his super abilities and would likely be immune to the irradiated pieces of his homeworld (not to mention the shielding on his ship must've been for crap for it to affect him at all!).

One can only hope that THE MAN OF STEEL will return Superman to his rightful spot as a box-office legend....

In one of my all-time favorite silver-age comics Luthor cures cancer so that he can befriend Superman all so that years later he can blast him to death with a Kryptonite ray.

I believe it was the first "Imaginary Story".

What does this have to do with this thread? I don't know. I'm punchy from too much work these days I think!

I dunno how it works in the comics. If Krypton got totally vaporized by it's sun then there wouldn't be much Kryptonite floating around for Lex to get ahold of it. In the first movie it looks like it 'splodes. ('Splodes is a proper science term, right?)

I don't like the whole idea of him leaving Earth. It seems anti-Superman to me. Loyalty is Supes main thing, so I don't get the point of it at all.

I think a better point would be---WHY would you leave your adopted homeworld to go and seek out a place that your father told you was destroyed in the first place?!?!

And, okay, maybe, for artistic license (and for the creation of Kryptonite) Krypton wasn't vaporized, but i don't think there'd be a heck of a lot of it left, either....!

And, yes, 'Splodes is an accurate scientific term (at least as far as I'm concerned)....

Exactly...you took the word right outta my mouth.

The scene doesn't make any sense nor is it logical.

Having said that...I always enjoyed watching deleted scenes...new stuff to enjoy...whether it worked or not...in this case...not...lol.
