    Harry Potter vs. Capt. America

The final Harry Potter movie will make a lot of money. It's release date is one week before Captain America.

Prediction Time: Will the opening of Captain America beat out Harry Potter in its 2nd weekend at the box office?

I think so. I think most of the Potter-philes will HAVE to see this movie opening weekend. It will still do well and has legs, but I predict Cap will unseat it, but not by much.

If the media and internet hacks don't kneecap Cap like they did Green Lantern (they were way to harsh on the film), Cap should take the weekend, but Potter will be strong the second week.

At the theater, we're predicting Potter will be insane for the first 5 or 6 days but since it's playing on so many screens the attendance will drop off quickly because nobody has to wait anymore to see these movies. Hopefully this will give Cap a good opening weekend.

That's a great question Adam. If this was not the final Potter film, I would say Cap' gets an easy win. Why? Because the Potter camp is built in. They all go see these movies the first weekend and then the film falls off the top spot fairly fast. BUT with this being the final outing, fans may flock for weeks. And with Cap' being an untried commodity in the film industry, you have to wonder how much fallout he gets from the Lantern film or if audiences can differentiate between the two. I don't think that's easily answered. A very good question though. I'm sure Studio heads are thinking about it a lot.

Potter's going to dominate this summer, without a doubt, as fans will think nothing of doing multiple viewings of the flick, especially as it's the last one in the franchise.

Cap, however, will have a very good opening weekend, and should hold pretty steady at the B.O. Word of mouth on Cap is very, very good, and it should open strong. Whether it'll beat Potter's second weekend take is too close to call at the moment, but IMHO it has a decent shot at being #2 for the summer.

No signed paper can hold the iron. It must come from men. The words of Ten Bears carries the same iron of life and death. It is good that warriors such as we meet in the struggle of life... or death. It shall be life."

I'm in for both and yes I will probably go see both opening weekend. I have noticed that there has been a ton of buzz about the last Harry Potter movie on tv while Captain America isn't receiving as much attention. It's going to be a close call as I think they will be both do well during Cap's opening weekend. I do have a feeling though that Potter will eek out a narrow margin of victory due to all of the latest super hero movie bashing of late and if Captain America does turn out to be as good as it looks; I would think it will have a really strong 2nd week and overtake Potter. Wouldn't be surprised to see Potter break all kinds of box office records since it is the last of the last. Even my oldest son who really doesn't care and hasn't seen Pt. 1 mentioned and interest in seeing the final movie. If it is anything like the book; it will be the best of the entire set of movies as well.....and definitely not one for younger audiences. It will be dark and violent.

Cap will do fine amid the bashing of the other superhero movie of late. It has a built in audience with the Iron Man, Hulk and Thor movies working toward the Avengers.
