    Black dossier

Has anyone else read League of Extraordinary Gentlemen Black Dossier?
I love Alan Moore's stuff and this is excellent, Kevin O'Neill's art is as great as always and there are many literary and cult referances in there to keep you tickled.
If you liked the other 2 volumes this is a must.

Just discovered not only is the 3d segment some of the best i've ever seen but if you read the non 3d parts they've used a reflective colouring on certain parts (gunshots, lights, headlights etc) shine out.

What's the story then...I hear that DC had a problem with Alan Moore or Moore had a problem with DC, anyway so it's out of print, do you know anymoore about this ?

On Amazon.com Black Dossier is for sale for $19.79 or it can be bought from Amazon.co.uk second hand for £43.00.
There is a The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Vol. 1: The Absolute Edition (Hardcover) for sale for $284.99 is this going to come out in UK soon at a reasonable price ?

Absolute editions for 1 & 2 came out here years ago and retailed at between £50 and £70...i've got both and will bring them to work to show you them if ya like...then you can decide wether you want to spend loads getting them. they're heavy though dude so i'll only bring one in. They are excellent though with A3 ish size books in hardback (one reprinting the story with extras and another with sketches and Moore's script), in a slipcase....there is also "Heroes & Monsters: The Unofficial Companion to the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen " and "A Blazing World: The Unofficial Companion to the Second League of Extraordinary Gentlemen" by Jess Nevins where each character or reference is explained...he's bringing one out for "Dossier" too.
Alan Moore has had problems with nearly every publisher he has worked with includidng 2000ad where he got his first major break...its too long winded and complicated to go into here so i'll tell you at work when we're both nights and have bugger all to do.

The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen Absolute Editions are worth it just for the extra "Goodies" volumes alone. The larger format also allows the detail and fine-line of the Kevin O'Neil artwork to shine. Not to mention helping you see all the little tiny sight gags with greater clarity.

I would love to see Marshall Law in a format like this, or even Nemesis the Warlock.

I agree with Bo8a that it is well worth picking up the unofficial companions given the sheer amount of references that Moore has managed to cram in there.

My one dissappointment is that no sooner have I commmitted to buying the dossier, but now they have solicited the Absolute Edition!

Did Moore have any problems at Image Comics? As far as I know, he was pretty happy to have them back up the money truck.

I think there was a problem over the unpublished "1963" comic that he done at Image...apparently there was supposed to be an annual where the characters appeared in 1990 and met their descendants who were more gritty, realistic and violent superheros...it never appeared due to a dispute between the creative team and Image.

Ah! I forgot about that one. 1963 was originally done under Valentino and then Jim Lee laid claim to the crossover annual that would feature the Image characters, and never found a hole in his schedule to complete it right?

I think any chance of that one eventually died ultimately due to a rift between Bissette and Moore. Although I much prefer the ABC creations over 1963.

I guess we can't really see "Image" as on publishing company, but a collective of creators. Never heard of any problems Moore had with MacFarlane, although I would imagine he'd quietly side with Gaiman around the Miracleman issue. I think his problems with Liefeld occured after Image. I don't think Moore did any work with Larson or Silvestri's Top Cow.

Anyone know what extra material the Absolute Edition of Black Dossier will contain?

This amazing new Absolute Edition is sure to thrill fans, and includes a 3-D section complete with custom 3-D glasses, plus text pieces, maps, and a stunning cutaway double-page spread of Captain Nemo's Nautilus submarine by Kevin O'Neill. As if this wasn't enough, also included is a NEW rarity: a 45-rpm vinyl recording of the song "Immortal Love," sung by Alan Moore himself!
That's all i could find about the absolute edition...from dc direct

I'm finally getting around to reading this right now.

Loving the James Bond appearances and Mina kicking his ***.

I think I'm going to have to head over to Jess Nevins' annotations and have those to glance at while I'm reading it. I'm finding I'm missing too many of the references, other than the obvious ones like Orlando, Shakespeare, Orwell's 1984 and James Bond.

Not having grown up with British Comics or UK Television, of which this volume seems pretty packed with references.

This is certainly a very dense and thickly layered text compared to the two original volumes! Can't wait for the third published book of annotations with Moore and O'Neill interviews to come out in July.

Whatever happened to Baby Jane in comics summary format was really fun.

I followed Orlando's adventures through history and literature fairly well, and I'm familiar enough with HP Lovecraft, but there is so much of the closer-to-contemporary British stuff that is just rolling past me.

The Coronation Street stuff, Beano, Famous Five, Supercar, Carry On movies... it's enough to make your head explode as I'm jumping between the book itself, the annotations, and over to wikipedia!

I'm also not too familiar with Michael Moorcock's stuff.

Loved the Blackadder and Baldrick appearance though.

I think only Alan Moore and Kevin O'Neill could cross Charlie Chaplin's Great Dictator with the world of Orwell's 1984 and make it work.
