I have never read any GL comics so dont know much of the back ground, the trailers looked good and the interviews on TV are making me want to go see the film and as most people said they enjoyed the film,so i think i will go see it as i don't normally do the cinemaalso its a good start for newbies like me to get into the GL universe.

In hindsight, I wonder if they Hammond subplot should have been jettisoned entirely for long sequences of Hal training on Oa. It seems Hammond is definitely the weak link of the movie in just about everyone's opinion (including mine, and I really enjoyed the film). More time on Oa means more Corps, more Sinestro, more of what this movie did REALLY well.

I hope the don't do the origin again it's not necessary. The next movie needs to jump right into Sinestro's fall from grace and the formation of his yellow Lantern Corps. They need to focus on the the "galactic aspect" of the GL Corps. Big space battles between the yellow and Green Lanterns...with Hal and Sinestro being the ultimate symbols of good versus evil.
And spend very little time on Earth.Leave a comment:

>I find it odd you're that convinced.
Superman Returns' SEQUEL may have been squelched; but there's another Superman film on the way. That's why I seem so sure: it's not about sales per se, it's about brand recognition. I doubt GL was chosen 'cos it was popular; more likely it was the most recognized name that the execs felt could be marketed. If this movie doesn't meet expectation (and it seems like any movie that opens internationally makes at least SOME money) they'll just retool it a tad and give us another origin next time.

Great news on the sequel! Personally I had no problem with the film on any level. I think movies like Lantern need to illustrate the motivation of it's characters before you get into a deep space story. Hal Jordan, in my opinion, needed the origin story developed before you could take him any further. I thought it worked great. Now that we have the foundation built, the real battle with all of the bells and whistles can come to fruition. And honestly I am not entirely surprised to hear this announcement about a sequel. Lantern didn't get made with total dependency on ticket sales. It has a boat load of merchandise and toys that are helping to cover the costs too. And as Bat mentioned, the DVD sales and post related product will also boost it's coffers. Especially when those who shied away from theaters watch it on DVD and end up LIKING it.
I laugh pretty hard when I hear critics and people who know LITTLE about the character call him a "second tier" hero. Hardly. Lantern has been (and continues to be) one of the hottest selling titles in the DC Universe. Burying both Batman and Superman alike. Warner Bros. will not bail on such a popular character that fast. The work Geoff Johns has done on this character and that universe has brought a whole dimension to that character. And those who blame Geoff Johns for this first film, apparently know nothing of his work. Johns' submission was watered down by four different studio screen writers. The studio also said it will be releasing a director's cut because there was over a half hour of footage cut from the final product. I suspect the studio will lean solely on Geoff Johns for the sequel. Plenty of reason to get excited there as well. In the end, I think the first Lantern entry will likely find it's audience on DVD. There were simply too many people, who didn't know enough about this character. And they allowed the critics, who knew even less, to tell them what to think about it. The public will get educated on the DVD edition and do what they should have always done before - Ignore the critics and pile in for the next film.Leave a comment:

>The box office here and abroad does not bode well for Hal
It'll happen. They probably started it before shooting was done on the first one. If GL is a known enough name to warrant one film, he'll warrant MORE than one.

You Don't like Johns
You Don't like The Current Green Lantern
You Don't like The Rainbow Lanterns
You Don't Like Reynolds
You Don't like Modern Green Lantern
So, Your Not going to see the Movie, Because Even if you liked it, You Would never Have the Balls to Roll in here and Write So.
KEWL !!!!
Good For you Bro.
Just roll in and Write 1 Of the Following 6 Sentences if you Feel like you Must ***** in a Green Lantern Thread and Have Nothing Else to Contribute, Because Some of Us just Still Don't Understand the World According to T-Bolt and Need to Be reminded Every Time a Green Lantern Thread is Started.Leave a comment:

A better story would have helped Green Lantern.
There were four unresolved plot points, that, in my opinion really affected the film.
1: Hal's family. What is the point in introducing them, and never showing them again? Parallax threatened them specifically, but we never saw them after the intro.
2: What was the point of Waller's flashback? Why show it if nothing was gonna come of it?
3: wouldn't it have made sense to do a scene of Hammond, Hal, and Carol as kids if their relationship went back that far, and played such an important role in the film's climax?
4: what was the point in saving Senator Hammond?, he only died later anyway, which in my mind weakened Hal's character development, illustrating his limitations.
I know that's what they were going for, but it backfired in my opinion.
Still, it was a fun movie, but far from perfect. It definitely should have gone through some more script revisions before the cameras rolled.Last edited by B-Lister; Jun 26, '11, 10:48 PM.Leave a comment:

Another thing that might help if possible is NOT releasing it in the middle of so many Marvel movies coming out. Why be prone to the comparisons? How much better would this movie have done and been received if it was the only super hero movie coming out in that period of time? I wonder about that.Leave a comment:

I was just trying to point some stuff out to you man ....
If you still wish to continue to ***** ..., when others injoy something go ahead I really don't give a Damn. It's just a Pain to sift threw all the Bull**** Constantly, with Each and Every New Thread, with someone Who hasn't read the Comics, or hasn't seen the Movie, but Continues to ***** about them, Because of Pictures, and it really comes off as Because others do Enjoy it.
I actually Read, and Watch Before I complain if I don't like something..., Not reverse. You go out of your way to crap all over every Green Lantern thread Joe, without having even read the Comics...and criticize a movie you haven't even seen based on others opinions.
