Big can of worms just opened by DC with this move...But everyone suspected as much with the Action Comics solicitation that Superman is Earth's first super-hero.

But continuity wise this becomes a mess...Yes I know they're re-writing history apparently...But even so this will probably mean totally new backstories for characters like Power Girl, or any of the old Infinity Inc gang, or the Jack Knight Starman (and by extension Stargirl).

I realize that it gets harder to keep the JSA grounded in World War II with each passing year but that's why they should have retired the JSA years ago instead of extending their lifespan 3 times over. At least the continuity would have been preserved for the next generation of heroes that came from the JSA.

Maybe they will still wind up on another alternate earth in the multiverse...After all we still have Morrison's "Multiversity" to look forward to

I'm really thinking about alterating the way I read DC Comics...Trades of old material might be the answer...I've had more fun reading the 5 volumes of Crisis on Multiple Earths TPBs in the last few days than I have in the last several years reading the current DCU. And ironically, those books heavily feature the JSA....Go figure

That's the beauty of comic books today: you don't have to be trapped by time, place, genre.... SO MUCH is readily available. Hell; thanks to online archives I've been able to read hundreds of Golden Age books I never would have seen otherwise.

I retreated into TPBs, old comics and the like a few years back, and I haven't regretted it.

I really need to get Crisis on Multiple Earths vol. 5! It's the only one I'm missing, and I STILL haven't read the final part of the JLA/JSA/New Gods crossover!

I'm hoping the rest of the JLA/JSA team-ups prior to Crisis get the TPB treatment...

I don't think this is a bad move at all. Why force out another mediocre JSA book when they can just wait for the right creative team to come along?

I haven't really cared much for the JSA since Geoff Johns left the title anyways.

And let's be honest. There really hasn't ever been a strong JSA ongoing prior to the James Robinson/David Goyer/Geoff Johns launch anyways.

MAYBE if you count All Star Squadron, but they haven't ever really been able to sustain an ongoing series with very strong sales numbers prior.

Let it rest. Wait for the right creative team to come along. This is the problem with 52 titles launching simultaneously (for the most part... with exceptions like Morrison's Batman or Geoff John's Green Lantern). You are forcing all this new product into the pipeline rather than waiting for the right concepts and creative teams to come along organically. Marketing forcing the stories rather than allowing creative to lead.

Who's going to sample all the product in one month? Maybe if they offered them as one dollar titles?

I honestly think Marvel is going to come out on top of this move. They have a ridiculously strong stable of writers right now (which is probably why DC is going with the artists as writers). It appears that the extra money left over from purchasing $2.99 DC titles... leaves money left over on the table for fans to buy $3.99 Marvel titles if they so choose.

DC only hope is that they nurture this digital comics strategy and finds that new audience they are gambling on finding by risking their current readership with this reboot.

Although there is that old marketing adage they have been using for decades now, that may or may not be true anymore within the new paradigms... Batman fans will always buy Batman books even if they hate them. (insert X-Men, Spiderman, Superman in for Batman).

Those characters might not be a part of the new DCU either.

                  I kinda agree with Samurainoir.

As off course as the JSA has been really since Infinite Crisis, I don't mind DC letting them rest. What I'd really like to see is a couple of Earth 2 books with the pre-crisis JSA. One set in the 1940s and one set today with the legacy characters — Huntress, Power Girl, Robin and so on. Barring that, I'd rather just have the old stories.

I do think having two versions of Flash, GL, Hawkman, as well as Supergirl/Powergirl dilutes the concepts. It's the reason, I never truly liked the merged version of the DCU post crisis.

But as drastic as the changes are that DC is making, it really should go all in and wipe out all continuity and begin totally new.

I actually kinda agree with the let it rest idea given time to think about it. The past 3-4 years of the JSA have been mediocre at best, what with the focus on legacy heroes and Wildcat kids and seperate teams. I'd like to see a series set firmly in the Golden Age like All-Star Squadron. Never gonna happen, but it's a wish.

My biggest complaint is that Jay & Alan are going off to limbo with such a sad, disappointing storyline. Jay in politics and Alan wearing some form of the Tin Man's armor. Bad, bad writing, terrible, terrible art.

I'll miss seeing them in new adventures, but at least I can go re-read the classics. Still a few Archive books I need, and this will free up cash to get 'em!

It's probably a good thing. Maybe the JSA can stave off the stink of some of these "relaunches".

Although there is that old marketing adage they have been using for decades now, that may or may not be true anymore within the new paradigms... Batman fans will always buy Batman books even if they hate them. (insert X-Men, Spiderman, Superman in for Batman).
I can prove that that adage is WRONG. I am as about as Batman-obsessed as a mentally healthy person can be, but I dropped out during the Winnick era, and briefly sampled Morrison's take, and found that it wasn't to my liking (his Club of Heroes story aside). And other than Gaiman's two-parter, and the first issue of "Batman and Robin" I haven't bought a regular Bat-comic since.
