Oh yeah, by the way, they just killed Captain America AGAIN

But c'mon. Who didn't see THAT coming with the new Captain America #1 starring Stever Rogers (just in time for the movie)?

Okay, line up guys... who's turn is it to be dead again this week? Jean Grey, still Dead. Johnny Storm, Dead. Nightcrawler dead in both Ultimates and 616. Okay Bucky-Cap... back to being Uncle Ben's room-mate up in Marvel heaven.

Although you will still thrill to the adventures of Bucky in WW2 in the current title.

And Gurl PLEEEZE! Don't you all be tellin' me that Winter Soldier won't be coming back at some point with all kinds of robot stuff filling that big empty chest cavity. Workin' for the Red Skull and whatever make Steve Rogers cry and stuff. Brubaker <heart> Bucky.

WHAT? Oh man, I really dug Bucky-Cap! This is why I geneally don't bother with comics. I love them and care too much. Ridiculous. The Bucky takes over for Cap storyline was my favorite since the Waid/Garney years. I do not salute.

Mina is the world's first Paranormal Petsitter in the new middle-grade book series by Gary Buettner, MONSTER PETS, coming in FALL 2014 from EMBY KIDS. Spooky adventure that's perfect reading for kids 8-12

This and the demotion of Dick Grayson are two wastes of character progess made for both.

This is why, as beautiful as Fear Itself is, I can't get emotionally invested in the story. The outcome is just to predictable. There isn't even enough wiggle room for Fanboy to make wild predictions.
Steve Rogers puts on the winged cowl - symbol of hope.
Thor does something heroic on a god like scale - action that justifies hope.
People throw off their fearful shackles - With the exception of Sin, The Serpent looses control over his "hammerers".
          BIG *** FIGHT!
Odin sees something in Man worth saving and joins the fight.
          Serpent goes down.

I hope something happens to bring back Bucky Cap. The trio of Bucky, Falcon, Widow is a lot of fun.
          Hey! Check out the pictures.

Well said. I really liked the legacy angle that DC worked for quite a while (Barry Allen/Wally West, etc.). Looks like that is out the window and all of the growth characters like Wally and Dick have made is out too.

And, while I was intially resitant to bringing Bucky back, I thought Brubaker did a stellar job with the character. Now that's all moot too.

And sometimes I actually wondered why I quit comics a year or two back.

Bucky's death was very stupid and seemed rather rushed, kind of like the Marvel crew said, ok who casn we kill in 2 pages, well we cant kill thast character (just yet< nope not her, nope not him) yep buck cap after all there is another cap the real cap running around the marvel universe with a fake energy shield, and he does have a major movie coming up yep lets kill bucky. then some one said oh how, that the drew reply was, well lets hit him in the chest with a hammer, then rip out his bionic arm, beat himup with it, then toss him a block or so, so that when he lands some of his friends can rush to him and watch him die. yep, thats the ticket, that's the ticket.....dumb pointless death of a decent character who deserved better.

It is funny how they do take fans on that roller coaster of emotion... tweaking them by bringing Bucky back in the first place, making him this truly care about just to kill him off again.

I don't doubt though that we've not seen the last of the Winter Soldier version. Perhaps it's just Brubaker's wish to take him off the table until he has time to write the character again down the line? Otherwise you'd have him joining X-Force, or hanging out with Spider-man or just generally being watered down by other creators in the interim.

Here's an idea... Let's FIRE the writers of this crap. Perhaps that would kill off these terrible stories.

They'd only replace them with more crappy writers....what they should do is bring in some of the old guard to replace them.....

Bucky was better as Winter Soldier ...
& Dick is better as Nightwing .

Y’know.... this made me think; especially when followed by:

                              >I don't doubt though that we've not seen the last of the Winter Soldier version. Perhaps it's just Brubaker's wish to take him off the table until he has time to write the character again down the line?

THIS is what I think the problem with current superheroes is; the fans. You’re VERY correct about this sort of thing being a rollercoaster for the fans; and if you’re gonna do something like kill off a main character it SHOULD be a gut-wrenching, downbeat thing. You should genuinely feel BAD that it happened; that’s the point.

....but the first instinct of the older fan is to look for the real-world explanation, rather than take the story at face-value. It’s not “OH NO! Cap is dead!” it’s “OH NO! They killed Cap again to boost lagging sales!” Which I can’t fault fans for. After 20+ years of superhero comics you can’t help but notice the recurring themes. And as a grownup you have an intimate awareness of fiscal matters that can’t help but find it’s way into your perceptions. If you were 12 you’d be freaking about this; but it’d also bee one of the first times you’d seen it happen. If you’re 40 you’ve seen this a few times.

But it makes me wonder what the appeal is for so many older fans, who seem to get nothing from it other than an excuse to lament the “good ol’ days!”

                              Don C.
