I'm sure most have heard this but if you haven't get outta' this thread!

My question is:How???? I thought there was a contract w/Alan Moore which stated they could not undo the events of The Killing Joke. Continuity from that point forward would stand.

I've never heard of such a contract. If DC were to reboot it's universe, it could very easily make Barbara as Batgirl again.

Which I'm very divided on. On one hand, I love the idea. On the other, Oracle is such a great character and concept to do away with.

I don't think DC would ever sign such a contract with any creator, even Moore. Moore's trouble with DC stems over the fact that his contract for Watchmen states DC has all rights until it goes out of print. And DC keeps printing, and printing, and printing...

I'm divided on this too. On one hand, it would be great to have the REAL Batgirl back, but John Ostrander, Chuck Dixon and Gail Simone (among others) have done a fantastic job of making Babs an even BETTER character as Oracle.

This whole relaunch thing seems to be to get the most recognized version of the character out there again...And even though Barbara Gordon has made great strides as Oracle, she still is the best known version of Batgirl to the general public who probably don't even know anything about Cassandra Cain or Stephanie Brown. In fact they probably are unaware that Babs was crippled during The Killing Joke.

If they are going for the most recognized version of the character, I don't understand why they are keeping Damien as Robin other than to appease Grant Morrison. Since DC has honked off Alan Moore, he's the closest thing they've got, I guess.

Tim was Robin on TNBA at least, and his last Robin costume is similar to that show and the current Young Justice toon.

^Yeah, but I think most agree it would be a disservice to the character to change him back to Robin at this point. It can definitely be argued about making Babs Batgirl again. Especially since there is a Batwoman running about, in a very similar costume, with red hair!

As I said in the other thread, this looks like a mess at this point. A total reboot would have worked better than this, or none at all. And by total I mean Superman and Batman just starting out, with Dick coming in as Robin later.

I agree. Dick changing from Robin to Nightwing was like him graduation from college. They couldn't keep a Teenager forever.

I also now believe this wouldn't have been a bad idea. It would be kind of cool seeing Batman & Robin starting out from the begining, meeting the Joker for the first time(which was what I thought Allstar was going to be), and having Dick as Robin again.
But the real question is...could the creative teams pull it off? Not just with Batman...but EVERY DC title?

I think I'm going to miss Steph Brown as Batgirl a little. She was really a fun character and I found it to be one of the better books I read every month. Even when I stopped reading all the other Bat titles, I kept Batgirl.

The thing is though, with the exception of the outcome of The Killing Joke, most of Moore's stuff was on the fringe of the DCU. There was nothing that really turned the status quo on its ear...Even his take on Swamp Thing with "The Anatony Lesson" didn't mess up Swampy's back story too much.

On the other hand Morrison has mucked up the Batman mythos pretty good in the last few years and it doesn't look like DC can get that genie back in the bottle.

I find it ironic that this whole relaunch is designed to make things more accessible for the newer readers and make the characters a bit younger than they currently are...And yet we have 4 generations of Robin running around, one of them supposedly died, one of them filled in for Batman when HE supposedly died, and one of them is the illegitimate child of Batman...How freakin' convoluted is THAT?
