I thought it was great. It didn't seem long either. Great way to breathe new life into the franchise after "Last Stand" without the dreaded reboot.

3? So I guess 4 is NOT better than Wolverine.

        I agree.

true dat - is there someone who really likes catwoman? i suppose but i couldn't get through it and i will suffer just about anything to see comics come to life. i would put catwaoman after the first Captain America TV pilot.
          apologies to catwoman fans

I have no interest in seeing this because it totally is waaaaaaaay off from the beloved history set by Marvel (before crapping all over it). Why is Beast blue? and x men that did not appear till years later are now part of the first class? I am sure I'm not the only one this did not sit well with. You vote with your dollar as to what is worthwhile, and though this debuted at #1 at the box office, it failed to draw as well as the other X movies...... will wait for dvd to have a peek. Funny thing is when we saw THOR there were neilsen rating people there that did surveys, and it seems many peoiple checked the box "I would not like this if it did not follow the comic"..... Juts my 2 cents, but glad to see others had a good time!

Yeah, technically Marvel Girl and Cyclops should've been here but I can wait until next film.

Never EVER saw Superman 4, so I can't use it as a yardstick of bad.

It's a good enough movie, at least as good as the first X-Men film, in fact.
I like that they set it during the 60s, too.

Still bugs me a lot how they tinker with the character origins in all these X movies, though.

                      Just seen it.

                      Conclusion?

It's already my favorite X-Men movie ever.

It has the best special-effects, the best acting, has the most intriguing storyline, it's the most ambitious...it's so good in fact...that despite all the superhero stuff...it doesn't even feel like a comic book flick...it's more like a political thriller with lots of espionage involved...this film had it all...I'm quite shocked that it was this great.

Using the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis as the main political focus of the storyline was simply pure genius.

As much as I loved Thor for example...that one almost looked like just eye-candy compared to X-Men First Class...which I truly believe is Oscar worthy...yes...that good.

It already ranks up there in my list of top all time comic book superhero films of all times...side by side with Dark Knight and Superman.

I know...knowing my tastes...that both the Green Lantern and Captain America are not going to come close to being as good as X-Men First Class...I can already smell those opinions coming.

For one thing...both Ryan Reynolds and Chris Evans...are not worthy of washing James McAvoy's and Michael Fassbender's combined jockstraps...they are not in the same universal acting league...not even close.

And speaking of James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender...these guys CAN act...the characters of both Professor X and Magneto were fantastic...even more so Michael Fassbender's Magneto...he really stole the show...I think he should be nominated for an Oscar...I became a fan ever since I first saw him in Inglorious Basterds...this guy could play James Bond.

                      ***** out of *****

I personally don't care if it changes stuff from the comics...sometimes it just doesn't translate well from one medium to the other.

You know how many times comic book themselves have changed their own stuff through the years?

Especially with the silly practice of killing off characters, and later bringing them back to life...get the hell outta here with that ridiculous and annoying repetitious crap...lol.

Like I said...I no longer care what comic books have to say on the matter...it's all about the movies now.

Just a great film. But I will tell you, as I was watching this brilliant story unfold, it was apparent it was written for those who wanted story and less about cookie cutter mindless action. The latter is not here. This movie is heavy in character back story and sets the stage for why Magneto and Professor X develop philosophical differences regarding their mutation. It's an engaging film from start to finish. And I just wanted to scream when I remember this director was in the running when X-Men 3 was on the table and the discussion arose about the Dark Phoenix saga. My God. What he could have done with that. For those who have not seen this film yet, ignore the trailers. If it seems vanilla and uninteresting, trust me when I tell you it is NOT. It's an intelligent film filled with great story, great acting, and breaths new life into the X-Men franchise which I have personally always enjoyed. This is a new standard for the series. All films in this genre should be made like this.

This is mostly Magnito's story and his character is very well developed...Michael Fassbender now owns the roll completely and steals the show! James McAvoy is equally great and their friendship gives the movie depth and propels the story.
I wouldn't say it was slow at all, because it had me on my on the edge of my seat waiting for what was coming next. Don't wait for the DVD...go see it in the theater NOW!

Even my Wife loved it and she's not into comic book movies. Her favorite character was Magnito.

...and you are right...I didn't find it slow at all either...it's not a mindless action flick...this was about intrigue and drama...aside from the special-effects...it was really something beyond just being a superhero film...I'm just simply amazed how First Class was so much superior to all the previous X-Men movies...it's on a league of its own.

The only complaint I have about your post is that you are mispelling MagnEto...

Finally got around to seeing this yesterday. It was an excellent film from beginning to end, and the cast was fantastic. I agree that it is the best in the series thus far. These Marvel and DC movies are the only sure bet these days that you won't leave the theater disappointed.
