    Return of the Red Hood

    Preview Here:
Newsarama | DC Preview - BATMAN AND ROBIN #23 Page 1

I've been pretty indifferent to the Red Hood up until recently, but the animated movie and recent miniseries by Winick were pretty good, so I'll be checking out this story arc in Batman and Robin. The character is really growing on me given his complex relationship with Batman and co.

While Joker will always be Batman's prime villain, DC could really develop Jason Todd into a major distraction to Bruce. Possibly his Mordred. While I like Damian as a character, I'd have Jason murder or maim him in some way that would push Bruce to the brink. Red Hood could kind of develop into DC's version of the Punisher.

His hair was always red, Bruce made him dye it to look like Robin. Morrison played that up in his first Batman and Robin arc. Wonder if Scarlet will make it back.

So Morrison brought back up the pre-Crisis dye job, huh?

Did he incorporate any of the other aspects of the kindler, gentler Toddster?

The post-Crisis Jason never had red/strawberry blond hair. Heck, I think most people forgot the pre-Crisis version originally did. It didn't even make it into his Who's Who entry.

from what i recall....and this is gpoing back many a year, they introduced Jason as a friend of Dicks a few years before they had him stealing the tires off the Batmobile. Was his hair reddish then? I might have to do some searching

Now would be a great time for me to plug my Jason Todd article in BACK ISSUE #48:

Back Issue! 48 : TwoMorrows Publishing, Celebrating The Art History Of Comics.

Yes Virgina, there were TWO Jason Todds. They had the same name, and were both Robin, but that's about where the connections end. Gerry Conway, Doug Moench, Denny O'Neil and Jim Starlin weigh in on the saga of the second Robin.

Here is a link to an image of Jason's first costume, and he had already dyed his hair at this point:
