    That's because of our yellow sun.

    When he goes to interstellar space...he needs a ship...the longer he's away from the yellow sun (combined with earth's gravity, etc...)...he becomes more human-like...meaning fragile.

    Being near a red giant (like it was the case in Krypton)...Superman is just a regular Joe. Kryptonite would be harmless to him.

      Okay - that makes sense to me.

      Still, a 5 year space trip in isolation seems like a pretty crazy trip to take if he's going to loose his powers at some point.

      You know what - I don't even care. It's just one small detail I didn't get about that movie - the rest of it stunk too. "Kumar" standing there the whole movie and doesn't even say a word - just distracting me. Bah!

        If I'm remembering correctly, in DC 1,000,000, Morrison has Kal (who's been living in the earth's sun for 800+ years) emerge from the sun and create a new Krypton.
