From what I've been told, other than the tax breaks for content this sort of thing is rampant in animation.

It's the only explanation I have for Chilly Beach... particularly when far better web series that launched around 2000 were far funnier.

Whatever became of Mainframe? They had such a string of hits with Beast Wars, Reboot etc. Last I recall, they did the MTV Spiderman.

Nelvana used to be a real benchmark in quality as well... Tintin, Rock and Rule, I think they did some of the Heavy Metal movie as well, Rock and Rule, Star Wars etc.

They found out there was a LOT more money in tie-ins, and stopped producing their own stuff. Then they started down the cheap route. Like a lot of places, the guys making the decisions NOW are mostly business types. Too bad; Rock and Rule is my all-time favourite movie.

A close friend of my wife was involved in that from the get go, I was happy he got a weekly series BUT I could never compliment the show itself. He didn't have anything to do with the writing anyway but it had zero bite.

They got bought out...now they make those direct to video Barbie movies. :(
