Margot Kidder was older than Christopher Reeve, too. I think the Superman dynamic works better when there is a little bit of that "cougar" element to it. He has a lot going for him, what with being the Man of Steel and all... but Lois has age and experience on her side. It adds some balance to their relationship, and helps make her more than just a pretty face.

I think Amy Adams could be great.

Wasn't the last one - whatshername - like 20? And Superman was suppose to have been gone for 5 years? So she was a 15 year-old top reporter when he left? Anyway - I digress.

Doesn't anybody listen to Hector anymore

      He already said she's 36.

I'm willing to float disbelief for anything that works... and unfortunately,
as much as I enjoyed SUPERMAN RETURNS, and even relished "superkid",
Lois being "responsible mom" to that superkid was what
hampered anything the cutesy Lois in THAT movie could've done had
the script given her a chance.... and that really was the biggest downer
of the RETURNS movie for me... altho' her snooping and "Supes rescuing"
was a pretty good attempt at balance... albeit w/kid in tow.

        LOIS LANE deserves better IMHO.

I'm not sure about this "new" Lois... but the fact that she has some age
under her belt may be what THIS Lois needs to succeed.... as far as I can
read here... it seems she's "proven" herself already as an edgier "Lois type"...I, on the other hand, haven't seen her act yet.

Meh.... it all comes down to the script for me.... and if this new one
matches RETURNS w/out painting the whole SUPERMAN movie franchise
into a corner like RETURNS did... all's good.

She's going to be great regardless of age. Sunshine Cleaners is an awesome movie IMO. I can see her playing Lois.

From reviews, it appears it was a so-so movie that the actors carried....
so in that sense it seems she's realy built up to have the chops to play
            richer characters.... which can't hurt.

The chick in that picture is over thirty, guaranteed, bro. If she's not, she's had a rough thirty years. She's wearing a lot of make-up and the wrinkles are still quite visible. I'd say she's probably more like late thirties, pushing the big four oh...
She actually looks like a real human being, not a manufactured plastic robo-face, like so many actresses in Hollywood. Natural beauty is hard to come by...

She looks fine to me - but, yeah - I'm off a few years. On IMDB she's listed as being born in 1974 (though I suspect that it's fairly common for actresses to lie about a few years sometimes).

As I get older it gets harder and harder for me to guess ages.

Yeah, but playing 20/20 it's a moot point, as she sure killed on that
                        part.

How that success plays in the context of this new actress and 2011... I have no idea

                          Um, no.

I think this is the wrong choice to play Lois Lane. I like Amy Adams a lot. She's beautiful and I think she's a good actress. And the "age thing" doesn't bother me at all. In fact, I'm all for it: I get really sick of watching aging children trying to play adults. And I have to echo the sentiments above - the girl from Superman Returns looked like she'd been clopping around in Mommy's high heels just a few years prior to being put on the Daily Planet's payroll. As far as I'm concerned, an actress could be well into her 40s and be a great Lois, provided she's right for the part.

But Adams just isn't, IMO. I think of Lois Lane as aggressive, impulsive, extremely intelligent, and a bit caustic. Adams personifies none of these qualities. Cute, yes. Appealing, absolutely. But I can't imagine her being able to convincingly say any line written for Lois Lane in that girlish, corn-fed, please-don't-be-angry-with-me voice of hers. I've seen Adams play "tough" and it's never convinced me (though I realize there are those who disagree).

Honestly, I don't know off-hand who could pull it off nowadays. Someone in another thread had mentioned Rosalind Russell. I think that's a good choice - how are we progressing on the cloning front?
