The helmet looks great, not sold on the anachronistic body armor/jacket.

I don't like my Cap with guns....He's Captain America, super-soldier serum enhanced physique with industructible shield...He doesn't need freakin' firearms
          Another unnecessary "Ultimate" retcon IMO...

It's going to be interesting to see what kind of success this film has when it opens. There are a lot of mixed opinions just within the comics circle alone. People are either gangbusters or very neutral about the treatment. His look is definitely slanted towards the "ultimate" universe vein. Now while a certain segment of comic fans may connect to that, a lot of old timers, like me, don't feel any particular fondness for the conceptual detour. And yes I understand the need to offer some rationale for him to go into battle with something besides tights and a shield. I just think in addressing that, they didn't retain enough of his comic identity to give him presence on the screen. He doesn't register as a superhero to me. He looks like a regular "Joe" in custom military fatigue advertising the US Army. And I'm not alone by no means in that perception. So, if there is a divide within the comic's community for his appearance, how will that translate to the general public who have no knowledge of the "Ultimate" universe? Will there be enough spectacle for them to want to see this film after seeing X-men, Thor, Green Lantern, Pirates, Harry Potter, and Transformers? The comic fans will be there. That's a given. I just don't know if the general public will follow. It will be interesting to watch. I think it's one of those films that either hits all cylinders and takes off or fizzles early. Since his look is so different, I think the general public will lean on the critics for an assessment here. Translation: It better get good reviews.

I AGREE WITH MIB41. Cap does not need a Machine gun, nor gun. He has his weapons built in, and what I mean by this is; He has enhanced abilities and his Shield. I do not like the new look, I do not like the painted wings, I do not like the body plates, I do not like the baggie outfit, I do not like the parachute like straps, I saw nothing that screamed out at me with the trailor when it was aired. I do not like the brown utility belt, I hated it when they gave it to him in the regular book as well. I will see this movie, Just like I saw Iron man 2, which by the way I found to be weak and not live up to Iron man 1 standards.

P.S. SOMEONE PLEASE PAINT THE UNDERSIDE OF THE SHEILD BLACK, SILVER DOES NOT LOOK RIGHT.

Cap has used guns before. How many Golden Age covers showed him parachuting into some Nazi stronghold with a machine gun?

I don't want him to be the Punisher, but I can handle Cap with a gun. Batman, no. Cap, yes.

                Well, 1939 Batman, yes.

Is it me or does his headgear remind anyone else of an old style football helmet?

It reminds me of Bibleman's headgear.

Perhaps he cooks breakfast for the troops with it.

There's (potentially) a sequel where it'd make perfect sense to
go a more traditional "superhero Cap" route (which'd include no guns...
among other changes) as a gimmick to sell the new movie..... that's IF
this "old time Cap" movie does well first.

Captain America is pure Americana...come on...he will be fighting Nazis...what more could you ask for...lol.

I think Cap will carry the rifle in the beginning because he's still is not sure on how to go about fighting with his newly found strength and agility...but once he gets going...he'll realize he doesn't need that anymore...so it will be just Cap and his shield...

it should the earliest parachute regiment jump helmets were based on the 30's football helmet.

it's probalby the only armor but I like on him

I don't love it but when you really think of it ultimates is right he was a soldier and soldiers use guns when they fight. If he had a gun fighting in the modern scenes I'd have an issue but fighting ratzi's why not
