    Young Justice: "Downtime"

Great episode, probably the best yet. Chock full of DCU goodness. Mera, Garth, Tula, Orm, Vulko, Starro, Jay and Joan Garrick, Barry and Iris Allen, Wally's parents, Bruce and Dick playing basketball...

This makes me think an Aquaman series would be really cool. Shows how well his cast can be handled if people take the care to do so.

This goes to show that there's a lot of potential out there for Aquaman...DC is finally realizing it it seems thanks to the efforts spearheaded by Geoff Johns. Hopefully his revival goes the way of the Green Lantern series instead of Johns' lackluster Flash reboot...

I think the reason the Flash reboot didn't work, is that it wasn't needed. I don't think anyone but Dan DiDio reallty wanted Barry back at this point. Thanks to Mark Waid and Geoff Johns, Wally had been fully accepted as the Flash. And Barry had a great send-off too.

Aquaman hasn't be handled right since the early 70s!!!

^ I've always been a big Barry fan and was looking forward to his comeback, but aside from "Rebirth" which was "ok", the main monthly has left me colder than the good Captain. I'm not sure all of this "Flashpoint" nonsense is going to revive my interest either...

It will be interesting to see how the outcome with Barry and Wally will eventually be laid out. Wally still remaining Flash and Barry as the Flash also.
They can't keep three Flashes (Wally, Barry and Jay) around forever. In the end somebody will be getting the axe (or a new identity).
Wally had carved his Flash legacy in stone and too me it was kind of too late to reintroduce a Flash character (Barry) to the new generation of readers who have no idea who he was. The people that grew up with Barry most of them quit reading comics, are dead or they still read them but don't care either way.

I think an Aquaman cartoon/comic series could be pretty interesting. The Young Justice episode was fun. I also enjoyed the Dr. Fate episode. In 5 or 6 episodes they've touched on a lot of corners of the DCU.

I've not enjoyed the new Flash series much either. It's not been bad, but it has been boring. Flashpoint may end up being a good story or not, but it really just seems like a big elseworld exercise to me.

With the JSA books going to pot, I wouldn't be surprised of the golden-agers were put on ice for a while if the main book goes the way of JSA All-Stars.

As for Barry and Wally, from what Didio said the desire to do a Flash movie had a lot to do with bringing Barry back. Warners wanted to go with the most well-known version of the character. Of course the Flash's film future probably hinges on how well the Green Lantern film does this summer. If it's a failure or only a modest producer like "Superman Returns," I could see Warner's shelving their super-hero, tent-pole initiative other than the Big Two.

I won't argue the relative qualities of Wally's stories and Barry's or their popularity among active comic readers. But right now Wally is sort of a broken character. His wife and kids became the story in Waid's latest run on the character and it just bombed. Now with Barry back, his place within the super hero community has been supplanted. The (Teen) Titans are no longer and option.

What do you do with him since taking Barry out seems to be out of the question at least for the foreseeable future?

As much as everyone seems weary of character deaths, I'd find a way to get rid of Wally's family. Let the kids die from their rapidly aging condition and let Wally's marriage fall apart after their deaths.

I would then return Wally to the main role of Flash. Reduce Barry's powers to a less god-like level and focus on the CSI aspect. Let his book be more a crime book with Barry stepping in to help law enforcement and other super heroes crack tough cases. Even without such a drastic move, I would be more interested in the current Flash book if it did focus a bit more on Allen and his police work.

Wasn't that Johns' original pitch? I take it then that hasn't happened so far? I'm not reading the book....

When I started collecting comics it was right as Crisis ended. I pretty much only ever knew Wally West as the Flash. I read the Flash right through the 90's. He was the only hero who wasn't affected much by "grim and gritty 90's comics". I like Wally because he's fun. I think he stands out because of it. I no longer buy Flash comics anymore. I think bringing Barry back caused the series to "Jump the Shark".

I do wish they had done Hal in JLU, but at the same time it really gave John a chance to shine. His relationship with Hawkgirl was really interesting and added a whole other element to both characters. They might not have got that from Hal.

Yea but saying that Hal & Carol had better chemistry in New Frontier & First Flight...

I like cartoon series that focus on comic material not made up stories or with characters in mixed up roles from the source material I liked Wally & John but if your doing Justice League it should have been the original 7 members in the toon....

I am really enjoying the show. Loved the Bruce/Dick bb game. I find it interesting Robin doesn't allow the others to know his real id.

Yeah, that bit reminds me of how Batman kept the original Outsiders in the dark back in the 80s. He made up some story about how Bruce Wayne allowed him to use his facilities, blah-blah. When Robin found this out in the Outsiders/Teen Titans crossover he was floored that he wouldn't trust his own teammates!

I like how Young Justice is incorporating so much of the DCU into the show so quickly. The JL and JLU series hit a lot of corners of the DCU but it was slower, possibly because of restrictions, but I like how the show is allowed to play with all(most) of the toys.

I also like that the chose to use the relationships with the mentors. The focus is still on the younger heroes but its cool to see them interacting with the characters that inspired them.

I'd love to see the Young Justice crew teamup with Arisia from the GL Corps. When introduced she was played like a teenager even though it was later revealed she was a lot older than some of the adult characters.

It was cool to see all the Flashes and Flash families at the dinner table and the Bruce and Dick hoops game was great.

I love the intensity of Batman's mission, but I never liked him portrayed as unbalanced or demented or so emotionally injured that he couldn't have productive relationships.
