TV came first for me. As with others I was familiar as a kid with Batman & Superman in the 60's and the Super Friends was something I never missed on saturday morning in the early 70's. While I had a few comics along the way I didn't really start reading them until I was 10. Then it was Marvel's The Avergers but I still watched Super Friends.

It was all sort of at the same time for me. I have an older brother and older cousins so comics were always around. At the same time, I had 66 Batman, Superfriends, Spider-Man 67, etc. all find their way from the TV tube to my eyeballs. It's all good!Comment

Depends on the property.
with GI Joe, the comic is superior. With Thundercats, it's the other way around.
With TMNT, I loved the show, but only until I got my hands on the comic.
as for the superfriends, any comic version is ultimately thousands of times superior to any Superfriends version. I know a lot of you have fond memories, but that cartoon was just bad.Looking for Green Arrow accessories, Doctor Who Sonic Screwdriver, and Japanese Popy Megos (Battle Cossack and France, Battle of the Planets, Kamen Rider, Ultraman) and World Heroes figuresComment

I believe I had the comics first before, I could read. I also have early memories of the Spider-Man cartoon. And I remember seeing the Adam West Batman movie on TV in my first home probably a repeat in 1971 or 72, but I knew who Batman and Robin were.
But 1973 was the pivotal year for me with the Super Friends cartoon first airing and me first getting my hands on Mego Batman and Robin, Superman and Aqua-Man. From that point on, I was hooked.
I first ran across the George Reeves Superman show in 74 or 75. While I knew of the Batman TV series before from seeing the movie really early and a ViewMaster set with Catwoman, I first saw the series in syndication around 76 or 77. I very vividly remember the news breaking into the Brady Bunch to announce Elvis had died in August of 77 and being terribly mad because Batman was the next show on.
I loved it when more of the JLA and international characters were added to the Super Friends in 77 or 78 and I played with Megos through the sixth grade in 1979.
Girls and football took the Megoes place once I got to junior high, although I bought comics straight on through to today.
But the Super Friends show, the mego figures and learning to read all at the same time really sealed my life-long love for superheroes, comics, action figures and cartoons.Last edited by madmarva; Mar 1, '11, 1:05 AM.Comment
