Which came first for YOU, TV show or comic?

A lot of us were little kids when shows like Superfriends, Batman (Adam West) Filmation Batman (60s and 70s), Spider-man (60s and 80s)Aquaman (60s), Marvel Men (60s), Wonder Woman (70s), and The Incredible Hullk (70s). So how did you come to be familiar w/ the characters? TV show or comic. For all of the above I'd have to say TV show.

P.S. As far as the Superfriends, I still only like the basic 5 (Batman, Robin, Superman, Wonder Woman, and Aquaman). When the others start joining in, it gets to be too much for me.

Batman, for me, was the 66 TV show first. In fact, when I was little, I thought the comics were spun off from the show -- it wasn't until I was in first or second grade that I learned it was the opposite -- and found glorious reprints!

Superman I probably knew fromt he Filmation cartoons first. All the others I knew from comics before their live-action incarnations.

Probably TV first for DC stuff (Batman/Justice League) and comics first for Marvel stuff. Not sure why.

Same route for me but I think I know why- I was watching TV before I could read and I think i probably watched reruns of the Batman show ad nauseum before I started picking up any Batman comics. Getting into comics lead me to check out other hereos and that led me to start reading Marvel.

I'd say about the same time for both. My Grandma's downstairs neighbor in Forest Park had her son's comic collection in the basement, so I got quite a few DC and Marvels from the 60's. Around the same time Illinois TV ran the likes of Batman, Marvel Heroes, Spider-Man, Speed Racer, Adventures of Superman, etc in the afternoons, so lots of TV heroes, too.

I remember reading comics before I remember any TV shows, apart from Star Trek and Land of the Giants. I also remember Ron Ely's Tarzan, but I don't see how--it was canceled when I was like two or three.

Hardy Girl. Great minds think alike. As far as I'm concerned, the top five Super Heroes for me in the DCU will always be the five core cast members of the SuperFriends. Batman, Robin, Superman, Wonder Woman, and Aquaman. I always considered heroes like Green Lantern, the Flash, Hawkman, and others as guest heroes.
Also, my start with Super Heroes were their live and animated TV incarnations. My first exposure to anything at all was the New Adventures of Batman by Filmation in 1977. That led me to the live action Batman TV series weekday afternoons, SuperFriends and Shazam on Saturday mornings, and Wonder Woman and the Incredible Hulk on Friday nights. So when it came to reading comics, the actors who played the parts live or by voice over gave me the sound of their voices in my mind as I read.

Definitely TV first. I can't say for certain, but it was probably Spider-Man on the Electric Company first, then 66 Batman, Adventures of Superman reruns, and of course Super Friends.

But the comics came very soon after. I have comics I've had since I was at least 3 and they were bought new for me. First comic I actually remember picking up off the stands and begging for was the 1977 Batman Spectacular.

I read DC Comics as a kid, so I knew those characters from the comics first. Branched into Marvel from the TV series.
Any of the Dell or Gold Key stuff was probably movie or show first.

TV for me. Not a lot of kids in my neighborhood read comics (thank you Star Wars). I finally got into the books when I was in sixth grade. I actually had gotten really sick and was in the hospital when my aunt brought me some Transformers and GIJoe RAH comics. I fell in love and the rest as they say is history.

thats like asking what came first, the chicken or the egg....as a generation that grew up in the 70's...we were kind of inundated with comic book culture....Superfriends cartoon, the 60's Marvel toons, the 70's Marvel toons, Aquaman, Titans, etc....all I can say is, from the time I was able to walk, i always had my action figure in hand....or as the case may be my older borthers action figures...my mom always says I wouldn walk around with all of my brothers Mego's held in my arms......it's a love I never lost and still carry to this day......LOL
Comics actually probably came later when I could appreciate not only looking at pictures but reading, or having read to me, the story

Comics came first. My Aunt and Uncle were big comic book collectors so I was exposed to them before i could read. I remember getting my first stash from an airline stewardess in 1969 on a Pan Am flight I never forgot that....I then was given the book by Jules Feiffer The Great Comic book heroes as I discovered Adventures of Superman,Batman,Spiderman, The Marvel Superheroes,Fantastic Four.....I was forever hooked on them

Batman 66, Casper the Friendly Ghost and the Archies were all on my TV radar first, which made me seek out the comic books they were based on.
