    RIP Dwayne McDuffie

I can't cut and paste the link right now, but I just got an email from the Pittsburgh Comicon group that he passed away due to complications from surgery.

That's a bummer. He adapted All-Star Superman which was just released today. It's my favorite of the direct-to-video DC animation releases by far.

I don't usually chime into death threads, but Dwayne was a great talent and a nice guy. This sucks.
I almost had a psychic girlfriend but she dumped me before we met.

If anyone here believes in psychokinesis, please raise my hand.

I just finished watching All-Star Superman (which was very good by the way)! I am so bummed!!! He was one of the things that made JLU great.

A big loss for comics and DC fans. My condolences to his friends and family!

I wonder what surgery he had that would cause a complication that would cause his death.

I know minor stuff always carries that risk... but still.

                  Too young, too talented...

                  His legacy will carry on.

I just watched this documentary a few days ago (I think I might have even posted this link in another thread). Specifically for the McDuffie interview.

Here he is just a few days ago...

I'm not sure why I'm taking his death particularly hard. It's not like I know the guy right? Does he really top any fan polls for creators in comics?

It's pretty obvious I admired the heck out of the man, but much less so in the fanboy way I dig so many other folks who created my favourite comics and cartoons.

It's obvious from his interviews and blogs that man was very intelligent and an innovator. More than any other contemporary comics/animation writer, I think he had that rare ability to change hearts and minds through his stories.

I just wish that comics as a whole just wasn't so short sighted, and I am happy that at least he passed away at the top of his game in the animation field doing what he loved most.

I know to some the ending of All Star Superman is ridiculous... defeating Lex Luthor by awakening his sense of empathy towards others, but that seems to have been the heart of what McDuffie accomplished in his best stories. That sense of empathy for someone in a different place than you. Physically and Emotionally.

Go read or watch some of these in his memory...

Lost of interesting articles and blog postings at his website here...

And he even managed to figure out why Reed was REALLY running around building negative zone prisons during Civil War, the plot thread that Jonathan Hickman picked up on and is really driving as one of the major factors in the Future Foundation.
