Walking Dead #81 No Way Out

Has anyone jumped on board Walking Dead since the show aired?

This is really the only comic that has me running out to go read it every month with any degree of excitement. It's really not the zombies either, it's the fact that the characters and their conflicts are just so compelling.

We got some bait and switch suspense in this one, but the one thing that is certain in Walking Dead is the fact that NO ONE ever feels safe from the chopping block... even Rick and Carl. Stark contrast with the rotating deaths and rebirths over at DC and Marvel. In Walking Dead, when someone comes back, it's a BAD THING.

You should pick up the Walking Dead Compendium one, it's Image's Omnibus version of this book. It covers Issues 1-48. you could pick it up for about $35.00. It's really compelling, You won't be able to put it down until your finished reading the whole book, Than you'll read it all over again!! That's how good this story is!!

          ^^^
A while back there was a glitch that caused them to be sold at $10 each at Barnes and Nobles online. I posted the link, but I don't think too many people around here took advantage of it.

This thing is the size of a phone book and well worth the cash even at $35 given that the single issues would have run you three or four times that amount (but IMHO opinion, the singles are worth it because Walking Dead has one of the best letters columns this side of Powers).

The show was pretty good and got me interested in the series. I decided to go for the trades, as the early issues are WAYYYY too expensive!

I picked up the compendium from Borders using one of their 50% off reward coupons and a gift card I got for Christmas...read the WHOLE book straight through in one sitting, it was THAT good! I've since picked up volumes 9-13 (the Compendium is books 1-8) and the Covers HC.

Charlie Adlard is supposed to be in Baltimore for the Convention this summer, hoping I can get him to sign them for me.

The key here is that I'm not a big fan of horror comics, so the zombie element didn't appeal to me. But as you read it, you realize that the zombies aren't the focus, it's the human survivors and what they do to each other. The zombies could be replaced by wolves, bugs, aliens, whatever., and the book would still be great.
