    The Return of the Writer/Artist

DC seems to be really swinging the door open again for artists to also write their own stories. JH Williams, JG Jones, David Finch, Tony Daniel and a few others are getting a shot at writing their own stuff.

It seemed like the 80's was filled with writer/artists at the top of the industry... John Byrne, Frank Miller, Walt Simonson, Howard Chaykin, Mike Grell, etc producing top notch product before the nineties Image experiments slammed the door shut on that at the Big Two.

Not that Marvel doesn't have folks that can write and drew their own stuff... Brian Bendis, Jonathan Hickman, Ed Brubaker all broke in drawing their own comics, but they all seem to be concentrating on writing only.

    Hmmmm....

I was always an independant/underground kind of guy, so the idea that a writer/artist is weird is.... weird to me.

Tony Daniel shouldn't write his own stories and I've noticed his art is slipping.
