Tonight's Antique Roadshow on PBS 13in NY...

One of the collections being looked at in tonight's show is Jack Kirby's personal collection of Comics...there also may be some art. I don't really know as it will be airing at 8PM...I am taping it so I will let you know later.

Cool! Did he bind his comics together like a lot of artists did?

Just finished watching what I taped and it was Kirby's grandaughter with art from Kirby's collection. It was a page from Boy Commandos with Kirby and Simon drawn into one panel. His grandaughter stated the reason for Jack keeping the page was the fact that he and Simon were in the panel. There was a BEAUTIFUL drawing...either 13 X 19 or 17 X 19 of Cap and Bucky in action. You could tell that it was probably an early 70's piece. Funny thing is Cap has the triangular shield in the Modern Day costume. Another drawing was a collage of Marvel characters, The Fantastic Four with Dr. Doom and The Hulk, and it looked like a piece that may have been done after Jack's return to Marvel...probably '75 or '76. Didn't care for that one too much...looked a little rushed. The piece I found really cool was a piece he did in the mid 30's...and it was signed Jack Kurtzburg. The last piece was a color poster for Boy Commandos...really cool advertisement piece...and it was a HUGE ad by todays standards. The one thing that bothered me was the guy estimated the value at no less than $15,000. The Boy Commando page would probably get 8 - 12K. The Cap and Bucky piece would probably get 5 - 10 K in todays original art market. I think it was valued about 5 - 10 K too low. I don't know if it's gonna be on youtube...but if it is check it out.

Saw that tonight- they advetised it as Kirby's comics in the guide, but it was the original art pieces. I think he lowballed it too...I would have said $30k for the lot. I don't think the granddaughter agreed with him either.

Chances are the appraiser didn't have a particular specialty in it. He probably did a quick internet search to find out what the prices were selling for at auction and just applied it without considering the subject matter.

Just for the fact that it was Kirby stuff, I was thinking it should be a lot higher too. Especially the little drawing signed "Jack Kurtzburg." That was cool to see.
Another piece I really like that was featured on there was the salesman sample of the medical table. It was just cool how it functioned. And is it my imagination, or did that thing look Mego-sized?
Hey! Where's the waiter with the water for my daughter?
