I was going to say the credits but I like what you said...
“When you say “It’s hard”, it actually means “I’m not strong enough to fight for it”. Stop saying its hard. Think positive!”

The extended cut of Superman III which was broadcast on TV is somewhat more watchable that the theatrical cut.

It contains a few neat little extra scenes and character exchanges.

III is still my favorite. The first two were very blah to me. The effects were good but the stories and execution were just weak. I hate the thought of superman being so love struck, especially to an ugly woman. Yes I said it. Margot Kidder was and is an ugly woman.

The Donner cut of II made up for a lot but why didn't he and the studio release a Donner cut of the first one along with the second? I think that would have saved the films for me.

IV is simply horrible. Too preachy. Would have been better suited for the small screen at the time. Sort of like the "Star Wars Holiday Special" of the Superman franchise.

The Donner cut of Superman II is great.
Finally seeing the footage of Brando as Jor-El was beyond awesome.

(The extended edition of Superman: The Movie released on DVD back in 2001 was a Donner supervised director's cut.)

I watched III again when I bought the box set with the Donner cut of Superman 2. I knew what I was getting into, but had not seen it since I was a kid. I loved Richard Pryor movies as a youngster and opted to watch it as such, rather than as a "Superman" film. Wiithin the context of Pryor's films, it's quite delightful IMHO. Kind of like that episode of I Love Lucy where George Reeves shows up as Superman.

to this day I have yet to watch IV (nor Batman and Robin).

I like Superman III so-so. Always felt it was more a Pryor vehicle and the comedy still holds up. Even when I was a kid I thought the villain was a bit of a cop out. Especially how high the bar was risen with Supes going up against 3 (4 counting Lex) in the prior movie. Now that I know the filmmakers were trying to do, in a way, Brainiac I guess that makes sense, though for some (duh) reason I never made that connection on my own...probably because the Brianiac I was familiar with (Superfriends) looked like a green skin Lex.

LADY ZOD: "Heck even Superman IV would have been awesome if they would have gone the route of Lana Lang being employed at the Planet and being interested in Clark Kent, while Lois loved SUperman... double date. And Nuclear Man was to be Bizarro."
My thoughts to a tee. I would like to see the classic Bizarro and the whole square planet backstory but A movie doesnt have time.

The no nukes was preachy but not as much as whatsher name ( Star 80) saying to her Daddy they had responsibilities as journalists at the end.
I didnt like teh Super Kiss to be used again.
I did like Superman walking into the UN and telling it like it was. Years later that idea would be used in the comics for Bad Kryptonian invasions.

Bottom line about three ( I couldnt stand Pryor for a SECOND) and four can be summed up in what Deforrest Kelly said about Trek being cancelled after three seasons.
He said it was a good thing. Look how low they were dragging. Didnt they start that season with Spocks Brain? Kelly had a point, it is also true with the Superman Reeves films.

i liked the dark superman and following clark fight.
i liked less margot kidder - prefer o'toole.
i liked that they didn't use luthor -again.
                        it had reeves in it
i thought the whole thing decent in 1982(?) - i hated it for years after (once i realized it's campiness, serious plot holes and other problems) HOWEVER - i kinda like it now
