Droppoing their prices hurt DC sales!

Marvel Regains Market Share Top Spot With A Bang, As DC Falls Away Bleeding Cool Comic Book, Movies and TV News and Rumors

So after years of playing second banana to Marvel once again, DC FINALLY gains the top sales spot for December in monthly direct market comic sales by a small margin. DC drops their prices back down to $2.99 for January, and their market share promptly drops as well.

Does the $2.99 or $3.99 price point make a difference to you in the way you make your weekly purchases at the comic shop?

The data might suggest that for the month of January, it just gave the consumer more money to buy more Marvel Comics instead. Which means we might be seeing DC going back to their plans to match the $3.99 cover price if this trend continues.

DC will just flood the market with more Green Lantern books to make up the difference.

    "Green Lantern: Emerald Janitorial Staff"

    And the spin-off mini-series event:

    "Partly Sunny, Mildly Overcast Day".

I'd be more inclined to try new or different titles at $2.99. I support DC's "hold the line at $2.99" iniative. I think that a Jan sales drop for DC might have more to do with some other factor, like taking care of Xmas bills, than dropping their prices. When they look at the next quarter compared to the same time last year, the picture may look much better.

My guess is that the $1.00 per comic drop had no effect on sales volume. Personally, one dollar wouldn't make or break me since I don't read many different titles.

I actually think I'm buying LESS comics since prices dropped to $2.99....I'm just getting tired of following books I really don't care about anymore...editorial practices, nowhere storylines and horrible artwork are more of a deterrent to me than price....

Bingo. I'm down to one pull for me, Jonah Hex. My kids get Brave & Bold and Superhero Squad, which I hear is canceled.

              Hmmmm....

Seems like they lowered the price but didn't increase the number of books they were selling. Interesting if that's the case. It'd support my "buyer inertia" theory, meaning they could do a LOT before sales would change.

Yup. Until Grant Morrison is removed my DC buying has dried up. Hell, my comic buying has almost dried up.
The DC stuff I did buy this month included Zatanna, Superboy, and Gotham Sirens.

^ For me it's more than just Morrison....I can only stomach so much Green Lantern stuff, Blackest Night burned me out...Superman/Batman/Wonder Woman haven't been fun books to read in a few years now (other than the Johns/Frank team-up on Action)...JLA has sucked since Meltzer revived it...etc etc
