I always thought that Batman-esque Robin costume was cool- wish they'd done an action figure of it. I bought that JLA issue off the rack when I was a kid just because of it...one of my favorite covers of all time!Comment

Was this just a one-off adventure that the E1 Dick Grayson wore the E2's Neal Adams designed costume?Comment

There's a blurb from Julius Schwartz asking readers if they want E1 Robin to keep the costume at the end of that JLA, but he never wore it again.
Later on in the 70s he tried on 3 more replacement costumes in ones story. Those were all designed by fans. I guess the power of licensing kept Robin in his booties until Wolfman and Perez built up enough clout to dictate change.

Yeah, the New Robin costume thing seemed quite the dilemma in the seventies.
I liked both suits the E2 Adult Robin wore, but was always a bit disappointed he didnt go with the Robin emblemed Bat suit he wore when he had to take Batmans place....this was a story way back from the forties or early fifties."Crayons taste like purple!"Comment

With Batman dead on Earth 2, it always seemed odd to me that E2 Dick simply didn't become the new E2 Batman. Did they ever explain that?Comment

^ Not sure but it might have been out of respect for E2 Batman's daughter, The Huntress....???Think OUTSIDE the Box! For the BEST in Repro & Custom Packaging!Comment

Could be.^^??
there were some "imaginary" tales from the 50's (and the Byrne graphic novel) that had Dick become Batman, and Bruce Jr. become the new Robin......probably would should have happened. Dick as Bats with Huntress as his sidekick?"Crayons taste like purple!"Comment

Yoiu have to know your E2 history. batman I (e2) died in a public battle on so all of Gotham knew he was dead (See ADV xcomics #461 or the repint TPB Justice Society VOl 2) and Robin had been operating as an adult member of the JSA for some time at that point (Of course Chief of Police Bruce Wayne also died in the battle to keep the secret identities of Huntress and Robin safe). The sacrifice of Batman would have been cheapened by Robin assuming the mantle the crooks would always know he wasn't the "real" Batman. Also Robin was an ambassador for the State department at that time so he didn't have time to patrol GothamComment

At the end of the Adventure issue where Bruce dies, Dick tells Helena he plans on becoming Batman, and she asks him not to. Her reason is there can be only one Batman, and they must carry on his mission, but they can't possibly replace him.
Dick did briefly assume the role of Batman to flush out the Joker in a Huntress story that ran through several episodes of her back-up in Wonder Woman.
