What that filmed just for the commercial, or did they re-dub footage from the TV show?

It's that smirk at :39 in that does it

This was actually posted here in the past (and there was quite the
discussion about West's replacement)---I remember noticing that smirk
        then as well

It was a new spot...Batman is Dick Gautier, not Adam West. This is available on the "Bat-Clips" DVD that was in $1.00 bargain bins a couple of years back...

thanks it was driving me crazy who it was I knew it wasn't Adam (his voice is so distinctive). it's funny there you can already see Burt ward is ballooning up (and by the 80's he was downright portly)

Hmmm...I don't really see it...in fact the ROAST/CHALLENGE stuff was about
4 years AFTER that commercial and Ward still seemed to be in pretty simillar
shape as he was in the original series----altho' I may just be being
              gracious----but I swear I've seen those '78 shows many times & never
thought Ward looked that much worse for the wear (West, on the other hand...)

Yeah, Ward stayed in "Robin shape" until the 80s at least. His hair looked longer on "Challenge/Roast", but I thought that meant he was letting it grow long while attending Hudsson U.

For years it bothered me about Batman. It wasn't until this was posted here a while back that I learned who he was. This ad aired CONSTANTLY on Channel 19 out of Cincinnati when I was a kid.

If you say he kept in shape I will bow to your knowledge. I thought his face looked rounder in the spot than in Challenge of the superheroes but my eyes may be playing tricks on me. I just remember the Will Shiner show batman renion when burt came out he was in worse shape than adam who was ponchy in the 70's challenge specials

I could be wrong, and Burt may have yo-yoed up and down a bit in the 70s, but I think he got really overweight in the 80s. His face does indeed look heavier in the PSA, but that may just be age. I think the Shiner show was the first time I noticed him being heavy too. My son enjoys the "Back to the Batcave" movie, but it disturbs him that "Robin got fat!"

Adam has never been the perfect physical specimin, but he's always been in pretty good shape, esp. for his age. Just look at what happened to Shatner.

The thing that disturbed me most about West in the Challenge/Roast is that he wouldn't tuck the neck of his cowl under his frickin' cape!!!

I always figured his weight gain made the mask uncomfortable and he couldn't tuck it in. for that matter when we look at pictures of me 15 years ago my wife always asks - how did you get so fat after you got out of the army?

                            I've seen this, it's funny!
"Do you believe, you believe in magic?
'Cos I believe, I believe that I do,
Yes, I can see I believe that it's magic
If your mission is magic your love will shine true."
