Just stopped my file at my Comic Store...

Been going to the same guy for 32 years...felt bad for him, but felt good for myself. Probably have about 10 years worth of stuff that I know I haven't read. I was only basically down to reading on a semi-monthly basis the new Adams Batman series (Which is only a 12 issue series) and basically Alter Ego and Back Issue Magazines. The other stuff I was basically just getting out of habit or to keep up with my collection. I think the one series that hurt the most was my JSA/All Star series. I LOVE those golden age characters...but it had to get axed. My goal is to get debt free by the end of this year...and this is step one towards that goal. It feels freeing in a way. I'll still probably end up getting Hardcovers of some of the stuff when I go to the next con...but it will be half cover at a show...so I won't be too much into the book money wise. Anyone else doing the same?

BTW, thanks to my Bro who made me realize during X-Mas it was time.

And because of all their tears,
Their eyes can't hope to see
    The beauty that surrounds them
    Isn't it a pity".

I did it a few years back Berto, and I've never really regretted it. I was in the same boat, mostly getting titles out of habit, and not reading them. I just don't agree with the direction most mainstream books are going in these days.

The good news is you can always get the collections you really want, and you can even go to the library and check out graphic novels nowadays. I just checked out Superman: Brainiac by Geoff Johns and Gary Frank this weekend. Now that was a great series.

But I got to read it, and didn't have to drive an hour out of town to pick it up and plop down $20.

Funny I actually walked into my local comic shop today to say hello to the owner been awhile. Going on 3 years straight that I dropped my comics completely.

I was looking at many of the titles and thought I would buy some just to catch up....could not pull the trigger and buy anything.....I saw the latest Batman the return. when I saw the 4.99 price tag I set it back and glad I quit.....

I still buy old stuff and collected stuff from the golden-age and silver-age

Given the lack of originality these days in story, I think comics would find a wider audience if they reverted back to the cheaper materials used in the 60's and 70's and LOWERED the price way down. People are NOT getting their money's worth these days and the comic industry needs to recognize that their inflated prices is not cost effective in this economy.

BINGO...That's exactly what I intend on doing...going through my collection...serious evaluating what I have and like...basically, thinning the herd, then concentrating on 1-3 key Silver & Golden Age Books per show to either fill-in the gaps or upgrade.

            That's it.

It feels good, and reading the old stuff again reminds me why I love it so much.

              Good for you.
              I'm down to;
              Conan
              Jonah hex
              Star Trek
              The Dark tower
Emce retro figures.Thats all I get now.
Without new emce figs I run about $30-$40 a month.
I'm not spending anymore than that. There is just nothing of intrest anymore.

I just stopped Action Comics from my hold list at the local comic shop. I dropped the Superman books right after World of New Krypton took off, but picked Action back up after the end of it in hopes it might improve. It didn't... I don't know what DC's problem is, but it shouldn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that people want Superman in what is traditionally a Superman book. I don't want to read about Lex Luthor and Vandal Savage. Just lame.

I'm down to Invincible, Walking Dead, Jack Staff, Hate Annual, any of the Ed Brubaker noir titles, and a few other stragglers.

I'm reading Bruce Wayne and Steve Rogers books. Love what Morrison is doing with Bruce and Brubaker just understands Steve Rogers.

I was Also Reading them All as well, but usally let the Mini-series pile up till I have them all.
Work was so up and down for me ... I took some time off from books, just didn't have the cash , and didn't get anything till about 2 weeks ago.
I Dropped Damn Near Everything, as I did not miss them. I did Keep..
                        Secret Six
                        The 3 Lantern Guy Books
                        Generation Lost

So Far ... I might Add a couple of others I like, but will just role with these for a few , to really see if I really need, or miss anything.

Grant Morrison has been making it easier for me to pull the trigger on quitting comics. He's keeping me from enjoying my favorite heroes. I don't really want to quit but it would save me money. Plus I do have enough back issues that I can reread until he's done destroying my idle and somebody comes in and fixes it all.

I like the one shots they occassionally do. The Weird Tales one was good and I just read one this week, Green Lanteran & Plastic Man, that I liked as well.

Boynightwing - I am with you. Batman through Time. ***! I suspect Morrison hates some of these characters. Reminds me of Dark Knight 2 aka Miller's middle finger to DC.

I recently checked out the online library catalog and I was amazed by the amount of trades and graphic novels. Wisconsin has damn near everything and I can get it delivered to my local branch more quickly than I can get it sent to me from amazon.com. I read some Sandman Mystery Theater trades over the weekend.
                              My Updated Want List:
                              Comic book original art
1970s Hulk or Spider-man metal garbage can
                              Custom Mego Nexus, Grendel

Have lots of comics and Marvel Legends figures for trades. Thanks!
