I just saw the Episode of Doom Patrol on Batman Brave & Bold ...
I thought it was great ..., Until the Last 3 Minutes.

I didn't see the episode but that has always been the Doom Patrol's "gimmick"....misfits that willingly sacrificed their lives for the very people that feared them....

Yeah, I thought it was kind of getting a bit non-kid friendly to have close to three or four episodes in a row where they killed people off.

Although in the case of the Doom Patrol, it was an adaptation of the comics storyline. Perhaps they are setting up a newer incarnation of the Patrol next season?

Yes, it was loosely based on the Silver age issue of Doom Patrol (#121) where the DP sacrificed themselves.

In these days of constant death & reincarnation, it may not seem to be a big deal, but at the time, and for quite a few years afterward, that was a significant tale as HEROES JUST DIDN'T DIE. In fact, if I recall, the only other major comic deaths at that time were Mentor from the THUNDER Agents and Gwen Stacy.

I like that B&B remained mostly true to the origin material. Of course, there were no bodies found, so the DP can come back. I actually hated the "NEW" Doom Patrol from the '70s...and it never sold well, so I'm sure many otheres did too. I recall fans writing in to DC to complain about the updated Robotman look, which was more robotic- a move RM would certainly NOT have gone with as his whole thing was the lack of not being human anymore.

I watched it with my son and without blinking an eye he said, "They didn't die...the island just blew up...they'll be back"

Yes they always "Died" at the end of every story arc in their comic. Its just a doom patrol thing. Hence the "Doom "thing.

The DP didn't die in every comic. they were killed off when the title was dropped and them a new team years later. it's only now that everyone has to mess with them and kill them off. Like making a Daredevil movie and only telling it's famous Electra?Bullseye fight and death scene. Jiust a total waste.

Yeah, I think you may be thinking of the Metal Men, another DC Silver Age Team...they were destroyed repeatedly then Doc Magnus would reassemble them in his lab. The Doom Patrol's shtick was more the infighting and bickering, breaking up and reteaming (similar to the Fantastic Four dynamic)
