    Famous Monsters of Filmland

    Anyone else into Famous Monsters of Filmland mags? I used to have tons of these as a kid and want to get back into collecting them (I did for a short time a few years ago, but just a few). Man, people want a crap-load of money for them on ebay. Just a few years ago I could find them on ebay for less than $5 each and now they are $20+ for a common issue. Am I crazy to think the sellers are crazy themselves for their asking prices or has there been that big of a spiked interest?

    Main reason for the post is to see if anyone here has some and would be willing to wheel and deal...

    I loved this magazine as a kid, and have thought about resuming collecting some issues too, but yeah, it's the price of them these days which has deterred me.

    Still find some at comic marts regularly along with issues of Creepy, House of Hammer, Eerie, POTA, etc.

      Don't just look at eBay. Maybe Mile High Comics or the even better MyComicshop.com may have them at reasonable prices. When I was in Catholic school as a kid it was "the" most confiscated item. If I knew where those nun's were buried maybe I'd leave notes on their graves demanding my copies of the magazine back.

        My husband is a big Famous Monsters fan. (Complete collection of the original issues include rare local market promotional issues.)

        And early issues DO in fact run big bucks in high grades. Later issues not as much.

        But in short, ebay sellers are crazy. Issues from the 70's and 80's should NOT be in the $20 range.

        But you can also thank CGC. Since they introduced magazine grading, dealers are thinking they'll be able to net those slabbed prices for common mags.

          Best mag ever. That, Starlog and Heavy Metal WERE my childhood... By the way, John;
          I got my share of FM mags confiscated, too... Lots of comics and Starlogs as well. But the day Sister Antonia Marie discovered an issue of Heavy Metal buried in my math textbook, all hell broke loose. They actually suspended me for having what they deemed as pornography.

          Must have been a "Den" issue.

              I guess I was lucky. My neighbors went to Catholic school (Nativity of the Blessed Virgin in Ozone Park, Queens). I went to PS 64... although on Wednesdays at 2PM I was stuck having to go to the Catholic School for my Catechism classes.

              Man, I freakin' hated my catechism classes... mostly because we had one suck-up kid who was holier than thou and pretty much ratted us out when we traded Garbage Pail Kids stickers/cards and Baseball cards.

              I did have some spanish language Famous Monsters mags, and some spanish EC reprints from South America the nasty nun tried to take from me. I told my mom and my mom demanded them back. Told them she paid good money for them to get me "communionized" and not steall my junk.

              I miss my mom, she knew how to terrorize nuns. (She herself a survivor of Catholic School.)
