    My local comic shop closed....

had not been to pick up my reserves in over a month. went yesterday to get them and found that the shop I knew.....was gone, but a new one had opened in it's place. kind of bummed because the owner was a great guy but oh well. was planning on cancelling all my reserve titles anyway, just gettign bored with them all.
did find a "Mego" John Horus for $5.00 though so that was cool.....worth it just of the parts if nothing else.

I thought mine had closed awhile back, then found out they just moved. Wouldn't be a big loss if they did, their selection stinks. You can find better stuff at Books-A-Million.

We had two in town until a few months ago when one of them closed up. It used to be owned by a good friend of mine and he retired. He sold it to this jerk who would randomly put comics in my box that I don't read and would never order. Then he'd insist I buy them. So I started going to the other comic store and apparently he eventually sold the store to this other guy who was retired and looking to fill up his free time. That guy seemed nice but he focused more on sports cards and beanie babies so I just didn't go back.

The store I go to is pretty awesome. He knows exactly what I read and holds on to it for me. He reads comics himself and he always knows whats going on in the various books.

I can't get over how many comic stores are in my area, last count there were 6 within ten minutes drive of my house.

They range from being excellent to the stereotypical digusting overpriced dives run by rude people. Of course the only one that deals in vintage toys in my area is the one I absolutely refuse to set foot in.

I was really sad when my "local" one in Buffalo closed. I went there for years, it was like part of my past disappeared.

Here in Calgary, they seem to surge one minute, and recoil the next. During the heady days of the early nineties, there was one on every corner it seemed, then there were just 3 or 4 hold outs. Few years later, they were everywhere again slowly shrinking back to the same 3-4 stores. Currently, we are back in shrink mode. I think it stems from everyone wanting to get into the biz, but once they do, they are quickly finding there is no biz to get into anymore.

the guy from my local store got out because he was in a bad car accident earlier this year, spent 4 months in the trauma center and then when he came out, his business and his personal life were in total disarray so he decided to take care of himself first and close shop....I can respect that. the guy that bought the place recognized it is an ideal location and he already has another shop in a different town so this will now be called Alterniverse 2

A shop I had bought from off and on since I was a kid finally closed up earlier this year. Then I started going to another shop as they were easily accessible on way home from work. A few weeks ago they closed their store too although they are trying to make it as an online business. The economy and price increases have been too much for many shops to deal with. I did some research was lucky to find another shop about ten minutes from where I work. It's tiny barely having enough room for the new books but I'm keeping my fingers crossed as apparently it's been around for awhile and between the location and small size the rent must be reasonable enough for the guy to make it.
