Proto Goblin? Villain in Spidey reboot

Ok, I stopped reading Marvel comics a long while back. The last time that I read anything Spidey was probably around the time of the Spider clones and Scarlet Spider. So who the hell is this Proto Goblin character? He looks like Carnage with blond wig.

I have no idea who that is...and I consider myself fairly knowledgeable on Spidey lore...sounds like some retcon nonsense that the film makers are deciding to run with.
It's a shame, considering the fantastic A-list rogues gallery Spidey already has. And AGAIN with the Green Goblin angle? This is just as bad as Lex Luthor ALWAYS being Superman's foe in the films. Why not give us someone we haven't seen yet...Like Mysterio, Kraven, The Lizard, Electro......

I guess I can see why they're going for this "Proto Goblin" route...to distance themselves from the Power Rangers version in the first Movie. Ya know, the original idea was to have the Goblin Formula transform Norman into an actual Goblin. So that's what they're doing now...taking a Page from the "Ultimate Spiderman" Comics.

Because it'd be a shame NOT to have Luthor, The Joker, Green Goblin
in the fanchises where they belong....and it's a better bet to do that
        sooner than later.

The only reason Luthor popped up so much in the Supes movies was that
he was IMPORTANT to the Superman mythos...vital....and then Lex
became more of a bargaining chip than a "decision"....if everything
worked out well with Reeve's series there wouldn'tve been a need for him
in the following flicks. But they DIDN'T work out well...they were
falling apart from the start...and Lex baby helped to keep things
        somewhat in order.

So...Lex was in the first movie because he was important.

The second, because it was originally shot WITH the first movie.

The fourth, because the producers and Hackman were doing Reeve a favor
to attain their goals, and try to cash in on Hackman's reprisal regardless
of if it worked or not. Reeve agreed to this appetizing Lex idea because he
give a fig, he just wanted to have his movie STREET SMART financed.

RETURNS was a reboot, so of COURSE he needed to be considered
heavuily for the villain....heck, even Nolan caved and put the Joker in the
second Batman movie he made after dabbling with newbies in BEGINS.

These bigtime villains NEED to be in reboots or the reboots are worthless.

Sweet mother of God. They tossed away a successful cast and franchise to make a reboot based on stories only the Ultimate universe fans can recognize. I'm speechless at the ignorance of this project.

yeah, while I am sure I will go see the movie, I am really not looking forward to this project.

The only thing I can say about this is Irrfan Khan is an amazing actor. His work as Sunil on In Treatment this season has been very powerful.

I have no idea who this villain is. That might actually be kind of cool. I will have no idea what to expect.

I don't think they should "reboot" the series. However if they treat Spider-man and other heroes more like James Bond where every movie (except the last 2) is it's own entity, you can pretty much do whatever you want. I think everyone knows Spider-man's origin story at this point and there isn't any need to rehash it.
