    Fantastic Three

New Previews is listing FF #588 as the FINAL issue, and a member is going to die...

"Following the death of XXXXXXXX, we spend a month seeing how the remaining members of the Fantastic Four, the extended family, other heroes, and prominant villains react to the loss of this legendary hero."

    Ben Grimm, rip?

It's sad to see how far bashful Benjy has fallen since the heady days of Marvel Two-In-One.

I'm thinking it's Ben too....There was a recent variant cover with Ben in a coffin and he's reverted back to his normal form too....They just did a Death of the Invisible Girl recently...so I'd think it's Ben...

Wow...killing off a main Character in a popular Comic Book. What shocking and original idea!

I hope not. Haven't read FF in a while but still like seeing Ben in New Avengers. Ben would probably bring out the most emotion though.

Hey! I have a great idea for a followup to that - The REBIRTH of The Thing!... Ahem... this gimmick is getting old.

there's already been a female thing so it would have to be another role for the black panther to take over. I hate these comic book sensationalism storylines...why cant they just write good stories anymore? I've been getting FF since I could read and man the last time it was anything near 'The World's Greatest Comic' was when Byrne was at the helm.

                ^^^^ Agreed.

                Byrne = Fantastic Four.

It's never been good since and is mostly irrelevant in the comic book industry. Sad.

Fantastic Four's been really good lately. I don't like one of them dying, but the book's been interesting since Jonathan Hickman took the book over. Unlike Waid and JMS and honestly Byrne — all runs that I really liked and with the latter loved — where they just put their own spin on stuff Kirby/Lee did in the 1960s, Hickman's done some new stuff with the characters that has been quite fun.

He's writing the Shield book, now, that's also very cool.

The book has been one of my favourite reads since Millar and Hitch took over and now with Hickman and Epting at the helm, it's just gone from strength to strength. We've been treated to some great stories and great artwork; those guys have breathed new life into the book which isn't easy after nearly 500 odd issues.

I know people bang on about Byrne and he was good at the time, but when you look at his run now; it's badly dated, unlike the Lee/Kirby/Thomas/Buscema 60s/70s run. I do honestly think that Hickmans run is actually on a par, if not better than that heyday. It's one of the best comics in the market at the moment and it's just a joy to read.

I remember back in the 80's Jim Shooter said that if a Marvel Character died in a comic, that was it...they were dead. I remember the reaction across the board was "Shooter's nuts...he can't do that." He did do it with Phoenix...Few years later, Shooter is gone and guess who Marvel brings back...Jean Grey. It's a catch 22...damned if it's done and damned if it's not. Everyone knows it's a ploy to make money...you know a lot of people are gonna buy it. The only thing you can do if you don't like it...don't buy it.

And because of all their tears,
Their eyes can't hope to see
                        The beauty that surrounds them
                        Isn't it a pity".

even though they had done it before, the death of Superman was an exciting and entertaining read......all the death gimmick storylines after that paled in comparison and have gotten so stale at this point it will eventually backfire on the comic companies the same way the gimmick covers did in the 90's. Did anyone really care when they killed Cpt America off? Batman? Sue Storm? no, because it has been done to death, ahem, pun intended.

That's the ONLY way they're gonna get the message that people are just tired this *****...or...if you're gonna buy it, rip it to shreds and send it right back to Marvel asking for your money back.

If they get enough of these and some bad press to go along with it...well who knows...maybe they'll finally get the freakin' message.

I have been thinking of cancelling my spider-man and FF books for many months, I find the Spiderman art to be horrible, With a few issues of decent art thrown in, there is no need to change the villians looks or powers. and no need to kill of heroes, have them replaced for a few months, then brought back to life, or decide they want to continue as the hero and return. waste of time and money.
