'60s Riddler: Suit, tie and bowler, or jumpsuit and mask?

The same will be true for most people of the batman animated series versions in a few years. They will become the inconic versions the way the 60's show did thanks to reruns all through the 70's and early 80's (especially if the 60's show contunues to be unavailable on DVD and only on obscure cable/satellte channels). -
Gorshin will ALWAYS be the Riddler for me, pretty much the 60s TV show defined the characters for me growing up. To me the current versions of any character from the TV show are like an Elseworlds version ... enjoyable at times, but not the first image I think of when you mention their name!!!Leave a comment:

I always saw the suit as Gorshin's evil genius master plotting outfit, and the jumpsuit as his Free for All, Ready for a good Fight outfit. He owned the role, and made both work well.Leave a comment:

Exactly how I feel about it. John Astin tried, but failed. There's only one Riddler: Frank GorshinI like both. The jumpsuit seemed to be his everyday outfit, and the Suit, Tie, & Bowler made me think he felt like dressing up sometimes. Frank Gorshin RoCkeD as the Riddler. No offense to the Addams Family guy, but Frank Gorshin was the one and only for me, as was Julie Newmar as Catwoman.

The jumpsuit had its time and place. It was awesome and I looooved Gorshin as the Riddler. The laugh was defining.
However, I think I couldn't take him seriously today in that thing. So I guess I moved on to the suit and bowler.Leave a comment:

The suit was way cool
???
I always liked the suit that Frank Gorshin wore as The Riddler. Legend has it that he designed the suit himself! So, he pretty much brought the character to life in so many ways. The laugh, the costume, the presence.
Jim Carrey was just gawd-awful as The Riddler. Either he or Joel Schumacher just didn't get the concept of the characters. I can't decide who was worse, Jim Carrey as Edward Nigma/The Riddler or Tommy Lee Jones channeling Ceasar Romero as Harvey Dent/Two-Face. Worse: everybody in the movie kept calling him Harvey Two-Face as if it were his name.
What were they smokin' when they got John Astin as The Riddler? Gomez Addams? Huh?
I'm not sure, I may be wrong, but I think the current image of The Riddler is what was used in Alex Ross' Justice awhile back, which I think is very cool, too.

I agree I think he pulled of the jumpsuit look pretty good,
I thought Jim Carrey was funny before he turned into the Riddler, after that he kind of sucked to meLeave a comment:

I thnk Carey was channelling himself as firechief bill mixed in with a little mask. Gorshin'd riddler was way more subdued and controlled (even when he was in a laghing fit)I'm really enjoying what Paul Dini is doing with The Riddler currently in the pages of Detective Comics. These days I think the Riddler works best with the green suit and bowler hat.
Only Gorshin could pull off the skinsuit. Jim Carey just felt like he was trying too hard to chanel Gorshin.Leave a comment:

That suit is awful snazzy. It left its mark on the character, although it didn't make it into the comics until 1989, in that Secret Origins special.
Gorshin was the best villain on the 60s Batman show...period. He could have worn a potato sack and still have been the best villain. As others have said, he MADE the Riddler one of Batman's top foes.

John Astin's portrayal was certainly unique but thankfully only lasted for a two-part episode. It was like the Riddler was channeling the spirit of Gomez Addams. Luckily Gorshin returned to the role for Season 3 (only one episode though...)Leave a comment:

Gorshin made both work. most protrayls outide of the comics are one or the other. In BAS seasons 1-3 used the bowler & suit and it was better in my opinion than the skinsuit for season 4
I am a fan of the filmation unifmorm jumpsuit tooLeave a comment:
