    Tintin has a lot of fans in Australia too. Pretty much every school and public library used to have Herge's books on their shelves. For me, Tintin was always more interesting than Astreix.

      I dig Asterix on a different level than Tintin, but the influence of both is astronomical in the world of European BD. You can see how the recent Asterix films would have difficulty finding a North American theatrical audience outside of Quebec.

        Hmmmm....

        I think Tintin is popular pretty much everywhere on earth EXCEPT the US. (Maybe if he wore tights?) So it's not too weird for Spielberg to go for something like this: international sales are huge for US movies, so he's sort of pre-emptively striking.

        And the comics have been pretty widely available here for the last 5 years or so.
