    SUPERMAN-2 (things that bug me)

I just watched Supes-2 last light.
    Not the new cut version....
    Just the regular one.....

There's some discrepancies in the movie that always bug me.....
    Here's a few ---

    1. The snake's bite clearly HURT's Ursa.

    2. The hick bar has the song "Pick Up the Peices" playing in the background.
Wouldn't it be more likely these guys were listing to country music ?

    3. That MARLBORO truck in the fight scene was WAY overused.
I mean, c'mon, this was the opposite of SUBTLE movie advertising

    4. Why did Perry get knocked out by hitting his head on a drop ceiling ?
Hitting your head on a drop ceiling is like hitting your head on paper

    5. The scene where Clark goes back--- (after he gets his powers back) --- and beats up the tough guy always bugs me.....
Superman would just not do that.

    6. When the kid was in freefall falling into the Horseshoe Falls.... His drop seemed awfully long.... I've been there many times and it's not that tall ..... He should have hit the bottom before Clark even noticed.

    7. Since ZOD was the real bad guy, he was the only nasty Supes actually killed....

    Please feel free to add

I think Family Guy made fun of the fact that he pulled off his logo and it became this big celophane type wrapping paper around the bad guys.

That's a pretty good list Mike....I'd add those psychic powers the Zone villains seem to possess as well as Supes' hologram powers. Never saw those before or since in any Superman incarnation. Seems like they were just thrown in there. And then there's always the "super-kiss".

I think superman actually killing the bad guys was a bit out of character. Most superhero's dont kill enemies they just entrap them, either in jail, or some sort of portal/force field etc.
I think sending the villains into the phantom zone and launching them into space would have been far more like Superman, killing people is always a no-no for any super hero (not including anti-hero's like Punisher).

I never got that he "killed" the Zoners. Its certainly left in the air what happened to them in the regular cut, though. Of course cut scenes show police carting Luthor off, and presumably depowered Zoners too. Of course if you go with the cut scene of him destroying the Fortress, I sure hope those cops got them out first!!!

I've heard others complain about the end scene with the bully. I don't think its out of character for Supes to go back and teach this guy a lesson. The dialog is pretty clear that this guy is a troublemaker and has started fights before.

Perhaps Ursa being hurt by the snake bite had to do with her not being "fully charged" by the yellow sun yet? Nah, I don't think so either.

The Zoners "levitation fingers" really bother me. So does the English kid in a hick town.

Pretty Good List many of my Pet Peeves also from this Movie. Funny How I actually really liked this movie as a kid.....but as I got older and saw this movie I started disliking many of those elements from the movie.

I've always felt that Superman movies are in their own world and take from the comics. Many times they take from the Silliness of the Silverage Superman stories.

Had Donner done the whole movie the silliness would have been played down some....but it is what it is.

Another thing that always bugged me about the Chris Reeves movies.....
Where did he get his Superman suit ?
I think in most Supes lore his mother made it for him.
In Superman the movie, we're let to beleive the fortress made him the suit by Jorels plans or something.
If this is true, wouldn't Jorels preprogramed suit look more like everyone elses on Krypton ? -- either black or white.
Actually.... why would his mother even give him red, blue and yellow material ?
I don't think I remember ever seeing ANY of those colors on Krypton.

Because the Movie costume designer went away from the Comic Book design of The book......Jor-Els costume in the movie is and so is the Design of their city they live in a Gloomy world of Ice near a Red Sun?...and Don't get me started with General Zod's and the villians disco suits

I would rather have an unexplained supersuit than some aberation of a costume they might have come up with based on the krypton and zoners clothes.

to counter some of your points (but must I can't come up with any explanation to counter)
                      4. maybe Perry hit the air conditionig duct behind it (yeah it's a stretch i know)

                      5. I could see the LATE 60'S - EARLY 70's Superman teaching a bully a lesson like that

But that is exacly why I only watch the Donner cut now it just flows better

Maybe Superman didn't kill General Zod.
What if, when superman thru Zod in the Fortress, the General landed in a pile of snow to break his fall. It may be very possible that General Zod is still alive and trapped in the bottom of the Fortress frozen with a busted hand.

                        Hhmmmm....

                          4. Why did Perry get knocked out by hitting his head on a drop ceiling ?
Hitting your head on a drop ceiling is like hitting your head on paper
                          -----------------------------------------------------------------

The rationale in this actually makes perfect sense (unlike alot of the other things you
pointed out which have me questioning as well)

Non is physically attacked by Perry so Non slams Perry's head into the ceiling---most
likely with the intent of killing Perry or hurting him badly----instead Perry mearly faints
from the shock of the whole situation----Non (being quite stupid) figures Perry is
either dead or hurt bad enough to just discard him without doing any permanent damage
to Perry---- while the scene, as an entertainment device, still benefits from the
dramatic gesture of Non lifting Perry into the air----without actually maiming the Perry
                          character to boot
"No. No no no no no no. You done got me talkin' politics. I didn't wanna'. Like I said y'all, I'm just happy to be alive. I think I'll scoot over here right by this winda', let this beautiful carriage rock me to sleep, and dream about how lucky I am." - Chris Mannix

I think Ma Kent still made the suit. When young Clark is about to create the Fortresss in the first movie, look closely when he opens his backpack to get the crystal. You see red, blue and yellow clothing in there. Now how she knew about the "S" El family crest, I'm not sure. Maybe Clark "saw" it when the crystal spoke to him, and he told her to put it on the suit. And of course baby Kal-El's blankets are indeed red, blue and yellow, although they are very shiny, unlike Reeve's super suit.

Keep in mind the original scripted ending to Superman 2 was that he was supposed to turn back time. As seen in the recent Richard Donner Director's Cut that they cobbled together with existing footage, I believe the implication was that the Zone Villians remained in the Zone as if they had never been released at all.

Since Superman 1 and 2 were written at the same time, when they went into production, Donner and co opted to use the Spinning the Earth back in Time to end the first film and come up with something else later to end the second. Of course he never got to the point where they came up with an alternate ending to the second movie before they yanked him.
