I totally agree...the early Thor stuff is hard to look at...I still can't forget the cross-eyed skrull cover of Thor 142:

Sorry - I'm certainly not saying Kirby couldn't ink well, just that he almost never did. I was pointing out Mark Evanier's opinions about the whole thing.

That's ok I knew you didn't meant that......a lot of people didn't realize that he was a good inker too but just didn't have the time. I just wanted to point that out

This is a great thread--I have the Evanier book, but was unaware of the extent of this controversy. Very interesting!
