George Reeve was terrific, and I would welcome a revival of sorts with a similar actor. I do not want to see a bumbling Clark Kent or a pussified, over-emotive Supes. I want a competent Kent and a commanding, authoritative Superman. Only someone in the 35-40 range could convincingly pull that off.

I've heard many rumors of John Hamm of Mad Men. Really don't know much about him. I just have a vision of Superman that is difficult to acheive in film. Just go ahead and cast the role and get this thing going already. 2012 could be DC's year with Superman, Batman and possibly Flash.

I absolutely love the idea of an older Jon Hamm Superman. I hope the older actor rumor is true, cause Jon could be a lock for the role.

Anyone know if it was because of Reeve's own hairline, or was it just easier to keep his hair all Superman-y with a wig?
It had to be for simplicity of continuity. remember that they were shooting 1 and 2 together and all the effects shots were done well apart from dialog only closeups. A wig allows the effect shot to be seamless (think of how jarring it is when they cut to a wide shot and the stunt double's hair is longer than the actor they double

Man, Crow tastes good! I bow to the overwhelming evidence. Never knew about Chris Reeves' condition with the hair falling out. Learn something new everyday.

I could go for a more seasoned Superman as well. Hamm would work!

An older superman would be good at least they would know the character more than a younger guy would know. A lot of younger people just don't know about stuff, the other night one of them said "Who is Richard Pryor?"

That happened anyway with Lois, Superman 2 had flat straight haired Margot kidder then when Lester reshot scenes you see Puffy hair Margot now three years older.....

I like the idea of and older Superman. George Reeves was about 37 when he first filmed Superman and the Mole Men. Superman always seemed to be in his 30's to me.

She aged about 15 years in those 3 actual years to boot. Hard livin'.

^Yeah, but if the poor guy couldn't help it, I can see using a wig, especially with all the screen time he has in those movies. With the effects work he did, Reeve spent countless hours in those flying rigs. So re-doing his hair every 5 minutes probably wasn't an option to begin with.

It don't spoil his image for me because i've been bald (on top) most of my life ... So on the contrary it's nice to know even Superman had hair problems

But, unlike Supes, i'd never even consider wearing a rug.

True but at the beginning they didn't know they would sack Donner when they started ....and we weren't supposed to believe Lois could fly
