Next Superman film will feature an older actor

Tom welling is 33, but his boyish looks are probably not what their looking for. Who is this Armie Hammer guy, he looks like he should have played Cap A and is he blond? First the blond Bond and now blond Supes.

Armie Hammer talks about the casting

Vulture got a chance to talk to The Social Network star Armie Hammer, who may have revealed what age they are looking at for title role in the Zack Snyder-directed Superman movie:

You've made a lot of people's Superman fantasy-casting lists. Did you have your people put in a call to Zack Snyder, who's directing the reboot?
[Laughs.] You know what's funny? I did talk to my people recently about that for the first time, and I think they're going a little older with Superman. I hear they're going 35, 40.

Really? Wow, Jon Hamm will be excited.
Yeah, I don't know what that might mean.>>>

Armie Hammer was cast as Batman in the Justice League movie that (thankfully) got scrapped.

This is one guy's take on the process. Snyder said he would consider Brandon Routh too, and he is even younger than Welling.

Brandon Routh was awesome but I'd be willing to entertain someone new. Blonde hair can be dyed dark and vice versa so I'm sure thats not relevant.

I'm not a Tom Welling fan (ducks for cover) so I hope they don't go with him. I don't hate the guy or anything like that. I'm just not a fan.

Hair color doesn't matter considering Christopher Reeve wore a wig when he was Superman.

            He really did ...

I still remember his Superman The Movie wig being on ebay around 2002-ish

Starting bid was $1500.00 with reserve not met.

The seller was also selling one of his Superman-1 GREEN SCREEN flying suits at the same time.

So why did he wear a wig? Did he wear one in every movie he did?

I'm not sure he wore a wig all the time in the first and second movies, and I don't think he wore a wig at all in III. His hair is noticeably lighter and not as "poofy". I guess the 70s hairstyles were out by then.

His Clark Kent hair style varied a lot too, from scene to scene. When it was all slicked back, I doubt it was a wig.

I never knew he wore one either until I saw the one on display at the museum in Metropolis, IL.

Anyone know if it was because of Reeve's own hairline, or was it just easier to keep his hair all Superman-y with a wig?

And people scoffed when I kept saying back when "Returns" was coming that they should go with someone in his late 30s . . . Same with Captain America -- there's just some qualities better found in a slightly older actor. Reeve was unique in being so young and still bringing that gravity to the role. Curious to see who they'll finally go with . . .

Okay, wig issues aside, I'm glad they are possibly going with an older Supes.

I want a guy who's seasoned and a veteran. Superman is someone who commands respect wherever he goes. When he speaks, EVERYONE shuts up and listens. He has a presence that is not comparable to anyone other than maybe Captain America. Welling and Routh, though good at their respective roles, are not a commanding personality nor could ever be. I'm not qualified to say who to cast in the role, but the choice to go a bit older is welcomed news to me.

I almost had a psychic girlfriend but she dumped me before we met.

If anyone here believes in psychokinesis, please raise my hand.

Previous reports from Chris Nolan said they were basing this Movie on a "young" Superman just starting out. Which makes sense if you plan on making more than ONE Movie.

                            From Wiki:

Reeve suffered from asthma and allergies since childhood. At age sixteen, he began to suffer from alopecia areata, a condition that causes patches of hair to fall out from an otherwise healthy head of hair. Generally he was able to comb over it and often the problem disappeared for long periods of time. Later in life, the condition became more noticeable and he shaved his head.

Perhaps not as old as Kingdom Come Supes, but getting there...
