New live action Hulk tv show coming?

I saw this on superhero hype thought I would share... This could go either way so easily.

ABC Planning Live Action Incredible Hulk Series
    by Silas Lesnick
Oct 15th, 2010UPDATED: Cloak and Dagger series in development as well
ABC is currently developing a live-action television series based on The Incredible Hulk, reports Deadline.

The character of the Hulk and his alter-ego, Bruce Banner, first appeared in 1962's The Incredible Hulk #1. A scientist, Banner's accidental exposure to Gamma rays causes him to becoming an uncontrollable, rampaging beast whenever he is enraged.

Outside of comics, The Incredible Hulk is perhaps best known as a CBS series that ran from 1978 to 1982, starring Bill Bixby and Lou Ferrigno. More recently, the character has spawned two films, 2003's Hulk (starring Eric Bana) and 2008's The Incredible Hulk (starring Edward Norton). Mark Ruffalo is attached to take over the role for 2012's The Avengers.

Although there is some planned continuity between the latter two films, it is unknown whether or not that plan will carry over for the ABC series, which is currently seeking writers

Fascinating. It will be fun to see the heroes back on television again. I wonder if they will use a similar musical score as was used in the 70's version? That was awesome. Hopefully the Hulk's hair will register less like a wig this time.

It would be all kinds of cool if this did tie into the Avengers movie. Ruffalo isn't nearly the star Norton is, so I could see him doing a TV series.

If they follow the movie format and use a CGI Hulk, I'm out. I postively HATED the first film and didn't even bother w/ the second Using an actual PERSON takes a lot more imagination and ingenuity in my opinion.

You missed out on a pretty good movie with the second one. it had a lot of the flavor of the show. Norton was excellent as Banner. As for a an actual Person.....no way. That was fine for the 70's because of the limitations of the time. Sorry I want the Hulk to look like the comic book Hulk not a Body builder wearing a Beatle wig.......

This is why I think a lot of comics don't translate well to live-action films. In comics, anything is possible; people can fly or sling webs or jump over mountains or whatever. If I'm paying my hard-earned money to go see a movie, I wanna see ACTORS, not some video game action sequence. If I want to watch something like that, I watch cartoons or an animated movie.

Yep, ol' Hulkie needs to look the part. a guy running around in a fright wig and those goofy little slippers probably wont go over too well with todays audiences.

Actors can not achieve nor do what Superheros can do in comics. The age of CGI made it possible for many heros to finally get a green light and have their movies made.

I don't know what movies you're talking about that didn't translate well?
Budget and script always hinder a movie to a point.

The first Hulk movie was a mess because of Ang Lee. The Hulk himself was fine that desert scene was incredible and the highlight of that film.

Marvel's movies Pre Blade era were all Horrible because of Budget and script.

There's no way a studio can justify a CGI Hulk for a television series. Too expensive! They'll probably use a body builder but scale him up in shots with other people. Lots of things you can do to show proportion (just like they did in Lord of the Rings).

I'd love to see a Hulk done in combination of live-action and CGI. Scale up a huge body builder (ala the Hobbits in LOTR) and maybe enhance some of this features like brow, etc, or put some good prosthetics on his face.

Not true Networks now have the Budget to do CG work. CGI has come along way since the 90's and last decade.Look at the new ABC show No ordinary family. it's loaded with CG work and is an hour long.

The only way I can see a human being done if they decide to do the Frankenstein Jack Kirby Smaller grey Hulk.

Agreed. I'm no expert, but I think they could go all CGI on Hulk. If its not cost effective they could (and probably will anyways) focus on Banner, and have the big green machine only pop up (out?) for a few minutes to smash and bash during the climax of the episode. Hulk smash, turns back into Banner. Banner is sorry for the damage, and thanks his new friends but he must get going before McGee...err...I mean Thunderbolt Ross, shows up. Cue sad piano music, cue Banner hitchhiking in the rain.....fade out.

Ha!!! so true Banner is the story anyway. What makes me like the old show now was Bixby's performance as Banner.......The Hulk was gravy for the kiddies and what did he get 10 minutes of screen time anyway?

I just had one of these cross-company meetings here at Disney where we meet with peole from other divisions to discuss larger opporunities (we don't say synergy any more ). I'm in news, so I don't have a lot to offer, but it is intersting to hear those on the entertainment and film side talk about what's in develpoment. DOn't expect this to be the last Marvel TV show brought up in the next year.

-Yes, Disney can afford the CGI necessary on a show like this and yes, it would focus a lot on Banner. The thought is that the better storylines would focus on Banner dealing with his counterpart, much like the series. Also, the thought is that a painted actor just would not be accepted by today's audiences.

-Now that Disney owns Marvel AND ABC, there is a lot of discussion on how to best use the Marvel stable of characters. The new Avengers cartoon for Disney XD was an easy choice. Decisions, however, on whether a character is better used in a film or a TV series continues. Bottom line, expect to see a few more TV series developed for TV if these things catch.

Wouldn't it be funny if they tried Spider-man again? Oh Lord... I don't know about CGI for the Hulk. If they do that, then they have to spend more money on an environment around him and then characters to fight him. What would he fight? A runaway elephant? Of course with Disney owning the rights, it could be Dumbo.
